I was taking a shower one day and I notice a hard area on my side, got very concerned until I realized it was my ribs. I've never felt my ribs before, it was wonderful. And Also I walk 2 miles 5 times a week before surgery I was lucky to walk to the mail box. Thank God for my surgery. Kay

I guess the best good thing is that I am healthier than I ever thought I would be. To be able play with my 2 boys and not be out of breath. To be able to get on the floor with them and not look like I'm killing myself getting up. (We all have been there!!) I guess that's the best thing. Just being healthier that I could ever have expected. As far as the best bad thing, I guess that would be the negativity from people. When someone asks me how I lost all my weight, I tell them with pride I had surgery. They then look at me and have this look on their face and just say "Oh, I see." With the attitude like it's the easy way out. (If they only knew!!) Then there's the people *****mark on how wonderful I look and how much better I would look if I had my arms done or had my legs done. That annoys me!!!! I look in the mirror and yes there is excess skin, BUT there is no longer fat under it. I am proud of my accomplishments as should we all. I guess I will just chalk it up to plain old jealousy!! Sounds good to me!!!!! Thanks for the great post. Keep it going! We need to keep the Nov. site active!! Take care. Karry 311/167 and still going!!!!

I didn't expect so much attention! Sometimes it is nice, but sometimes it is overwhelming!!! Also, the attention from men is something that I could definately live without!!!! I was at a party the other night and everyone was going on and on and on about how great I look and so on and it got a little embarassing!! But I would not trade that for all of the quiet stares and whispers that I was sure I was getting when I weighed 275!!!

Topic: RE: Those dang CARBS....
Carbs...particularly white carbs (white flour, rice, potatoes) are poison for us and should be avoided totally. A couple reasons for this...first of all they are water soluable and don't trigger the "full" feeling that dense proteins do so we can eat lots of them. Second and most important, they are high glycemic foods and spike our blood sugar. This gives us a rush but the blood sugar drops quickly and makes us hungry quicker. That's the reason for the "eat more want more" phenomenon. I have a problem with carbs as well, but its easier to manage if I just stay away altogether. A little whole grain carbs (oatmeal, whole grain bread) early in the a.m. fills me up. But I actually get far less hungry if I just stay away completely. Good luck! Jo

Topic: RE: A moment of truth...I suck!!
Erica, Erica, Erica, I'm glad I came across this post. I have been really good until this weekend. I bought tons of junk, brownie bites, donuts, and candy for my 15 year old's birthday and only 4 of 10 kids showed up. So I passed all that junk hourly on my kitchen counter. And being the past sneek that I was, (and obviously still have lurking in my self.) I averaged about 4 of those things a day for 2 days. Then yesterday I about beat myself up silly in my brain over it. I am up 2 pounds and am back on track. Half the birthday cake went in the freezer and the candy and brownies went to work. But I still feel bad. I am usually so good. You could call me a goody 2 shoe about following the rules, until now. I guess that is why it is so hard on me now that I've slacked. So let's you and I get it back together and move on past these screw ups.

Topic: RE: gaining weight after gastric bypass
I had a newer surgery called the vertical "sleeve" gastrectomy, which is restrictive-only like the lap band. I chose this after much research (see profile if you want more information). I am doing great. I've lost 118 pounds at 11-1/2 months out and am still losing (though MUCH slower). It's a lot harder to stay compliant, but my appetite is still very restricted which is good. Just have to make the right decisions. This is the best thing I've ever done and would do it again in a heartbeat. One piece of advice...the MOST important decision you make is who will do your surgery. Choose VERY carefully, do your research. Jo
