Topic: Hi to all my November 2004 family!
Just wanted to update and see how everyone is doing now. I have lost 135 pounds am at my goal weight of 135. I am wearing size 8 comfortably and have just been approved (after 3 appears) for tummy tuck & panniculectomy. They denied my breast lift. Probably because I have no breasts to lift--just dimpled, sagging skin. So...I will pay for breast lift & implants myself and get them done at the same time so save a little bit of cash. Anybody have experience with this plastic surgery? Would love to hear from you. You can respond here or e-mail me with your story. I find that I have been able to maintain my weight for the past 3-4 months now. I vary plus or minus 4 pounds and am able to get it right back to where I want it. But many people tell me "don't lose any more weight---you are thin enough". It would be easy for me to lose more but I have thought about what they said and have listened to my husband. I was becoming totally obsessed with this new concept of "thin" and it was driving him crazy. Enough is enough! I'm happy with my results and feel great. Still worry though about everything I eat and still have not eaten more than 13 grams of sugar at one time. (never more than once in a day). And there are many foods I can't eat now without bad side effects (gas). So, while I thought being thin would end my obsession with food, it has not.....only changed it. Be careful what you think this surgery will do for you---it does not end all problems but for me, it has made the problems I do have, very SMALL. Thanks for listening.

It's after Love day but I figured I can still answer.... Have you adjusted to how much you eat? ~~ For the most part. I can eat a little more than before but I am really good at listening to my body when it tells me to stop. Are you still losing? ~~ I guess I am maintaining, I gain and lose the same 3 pounds every month. I would like to lose 10 more pounds but will be happy here. Do you have a new Valentine this year??? ~~ Nope, I have been with my love for 6 years now and plan on many more with him. How many pieces of chocolate will you have??? ~~ I had a few. I eat everything in moderation now. I do not deprive myself of anything. How much weight have you lost to date??? ~~ Still at 102 since surgery. How much % of total excess weight have you lost??? 92%

OK, you know what you are doing wrong, you are grazing and you don't eat proper meals. The first step to fixing the problem is identifying them, you've done that. Now you need to take the steps to stop the problem. Why don't you eat breakfast or lunch? It is sooo important to eat these meals. They give you the fuel you need for the day and keep you from grazing. But I am not telling you something you don't already know. I don't know what to tell you to make you start eating better though. For me, when I noticed the scale going in the wrong direction, I just started eating better. That was motivation enough. I guess I would say you need to figure out what you need to motivate yourself to eating better. Melissa

Can someone who is three years out stick her nose in? You of course, are welcome to ignore my presence here ok...3.5 years postop - if I choose 2 eggs, fried over medium (solid white, runny yolk) and 3 potatoes (medium, red) shredded into hash browns and fried - and then chop the soft egg up into the potatoes after they are cooked. Packed down - that's about 2 and 1/2 cups of solid food. Now here's the ticket - I can eat it ALL - it chews down to nothing and the potato helps slide the dense eggs on through. (kind of like your grilled cheese sandwich did) Now if I take 3 eggs and add a 1/3 cup of cheese (make an omelet) - I usually can't fini**** all - most, but not the last couple bites. If it is steak or chicken and steamed veggies I can eat about 3 or 4 ounces of meat and about 3/4 cup veggies. If I eat just cheese? 4 ounces usually leaves me comfortable - not stuffed, but comfy. And if I eat 3 times a day - I make worse choices AND eat more over-all than if I eat 6 smaller meals. Also the faster I eat, the faster I get comfortably full. I don't dally over my meals. I chew well, but I finish - I don't have dinner 'conversation' or put my fork down and wait 5 minutes between bites. I don't shovel the food in, but I eat until I'm done. The ticket for ME is: (1) density of the food (2) how it's prepared (3) how often I eat (4) how slowly/fast I eat. Have no idea if this is helpful......hugs, Toots

Topic: I am looking for HELP
My surgery has been over 1 year, I had lost 61 pounds as of 8/20/05 but now I have gained about 11 pounds back. I am very depressed and need to find out how to get back on the road. I am a "grazer" when eating. I don't feel comfortable eating breakfast & lunch so I munch until dinner. I try to eat protein foods but the calories are obviously creeping up. Also, I think I am going back to my stress eating because I am not really hungry. I am so desperate to lose weight that I have actually been looking at articles on bulemia or anorexia. That is crazy. Thanks, Jackie.

Hi Joann. No you are not alone. This sounds just like my concerns that I am trying to get help with it. I, too, am so afraid that my pouch may have stretched. I do find that I seem to have sugar cravings - sweets. I try to watch it but that is what I go for and I am not hungry, just my mind wants it. Your weigh loss it great!!! I had lost 61# post op 9months but have gained about 11 pounds back & am very depressed about it. There are times however that I do feel pressure in my stomach. So maybe not. Also, I need to get back to my exercising. I think that has really hurt me. If you get some really good responses, would you please be sure to let me know? I was going to see my dr on the 27th but what can her really do if I am stress eating, & grazing? Sure he will tell me I need to work that out. Has anyone reading this gone to counseling for "why we stress eat, etc."? Thanks, Jackie

Hi everyone! I haven't checked in in such a long time!! I hope all of you are doing great 1. Adjustment?: Yes and no. I do overeat at times, but I am also 4 months pregnant, so I think that I eat more some days because of that. But overall, I think I'm still doing okay. Unfortunately, I am craving candy of all things with the pregnancy and can eat a ridiculous amount without any ill effects, so that's my demon at the moment. I can almost eat an entire ham and cheese sandwich with the bread to give you an idea. I don't measure my food amounts anymore and just let my pouch be a guide. I do find I "push" it a bit, so I need to remind myself to use the tool instead of abuse it. 2. Losing?: Thankfully, NO! For the first 12 weeks of the pregnancy, I lost a couple pounds, but as of my last appt at 15 weeks, I have now gained 3lbs. I don't want to gain a ton of weight, but I want to make sure I do gain to make a healthy little baby 3. New Valentine?: No. Same Valentine for the last 11 years 4. Pieces of chocolate?: Okay, I did mention that I am having candy cravings, right? On Valentine's Day, I honestly ate probably 12 pieces of chocolates throughout the day!! FORGIVE ME, FOR I HAVE SINNED! LOL 5. Weight lost to date?: Before pregnancy, 121lbs lost. Now, it's about 118lbs lost. 6. % of total excess?: Before getting pregnant, I was within my goal. I wanted to be between 130-140lbs and I got to 137lbs. That was, I think, 96% according to the weight loss planner. I think I am at about 89% now with the few pounds I've gained. This has been fun!! I will try to check in more often God bless Erica
