Topic: RE: I am so bummed! (Protein)
I have hated every protein drink also... to me they all have a weird flavor - I have been able to get down a milk & egg protein powder that I get in the health food section of my local Raley's - However - I have to blend it with a bunch of frozen berries, low-fat milk and occassionally a little extra dash of vanilla - But - the thing you wrote about being tired after having the protein... Makes me wonder if you might have a different tolerance for protein in general & maybe asking your doctor about this specifically or a nutritionist might help - There are other ways to get your protein of course... I eat a lot of cheese - mostly mozerella, beef or turkey jerky - soy nuts (these have about 37 grams of protein per oz.) I can eat beef - but not chicken - so I enjoy, hamburger patties & another favorite - is soy crisps "dipped" into cottage cheese with a little salt & pepper in it - (This was my mom's trick when we were kids to get us to eat cottage cheese - of course, we ate really high fat chips with it - but I find now that the soy chips - especially the ones with parmessan and garlic are a really nice substitute.) Anyways - Don't know if you've tried mixing the unflavored or vanilla with berries or sugar free chocolate drink mix (like nestles's) but it might help.... Much good luck & good thoughts to you.

Topic: RE: Difficult in eating Bread?
I'm allowed bread - BUT - if I can have it or protein... I choose the protein - However, in the am - usually when I'm rushing to leave for work I toast a piece of sourdough (cause it gets really crusty) & put peanut or almond butter on it - so that I get some protein. So long as I eat it slow it goes okay. I've stopped saying yes - when they ask before a meal if they can bring bread... this is a HUGE step for me Especially if the bread is home baked.

I cannot stand drinking protein shakes. I HATE it! I have tried so many different types I don't know where to go from here. Right after my surgery I got Whey Protein from GNC in the vanilla flavor. Yuck! It was horrible. I then ordered samples of Unjury vanilla and chocolate flavors. Hated both of them! They feel so thick and disgusting in my throat and make my stomach hurt. I have also tried sugar free carnation instant breakfast. I didn't think it tasted that bad but it made me feel horrible. Every single protein drink I have drank has given me a stomach ache and made me over all just feel "blah" like I don't feel like moving till it finally digests I guess and then I start to feel better. I finally thought I had found a solution when I saw Unjury had unflavored protein. Well I got my sample yesterday and today at 12:30 pm I put in my crystal light. Well I don't think it's unflavored. It made my crystal light so thick and gave it a wierd flavor. I hated it but forced myself to drink it b/c I know I need protein. As soon as I drank it I started feeling sick and just wanted to sleep. Now it's 3:30 and I'm finally feeling normal again. Why does protein make me feel that way? I thought it was suppossed to make me feel better and more energized? Does anyone have any suggestions on any protein I may be able to tolerate?

I can eat bread even though I usually choose not to. The last time I ate it was 2 weeks ago when we went to Subway. I was going to get the atkins wrap and then I just thought "what the heck I'll try some bread" and I ate about 1/2 of a 6 inch turkey sub. (So 3 inches). I didn't feel sick at all, just really full. Sharon, I can eat bread although I know that I really shouldn't. I don't abuse it cause of the carbs but sometimes I like to have my tuna on bread. It is VERY common not to be able to eat bread. A friend of mine told me that anything you can hold under the faucet that will expand (ie. bread and pasta) can cause problems. Good luck and don't worry about not being able to eat it...it's not a good food choice anyway. Debbie

Hey family, Who knew that a grown woman would dance naked around her bathroom , pumping her arms in the air like Rocky over 1.5lbs loss!! Well, I'm here to tell you that she will! I've been stuck at 181.5 since April 9th. I'm a slow loser anyway started at 243 on Nov 4th, 2004. I'm now down 63lbs and am 180. I would love to make it to 135 but would be perfectly happy at 143 (100 lbs gone forever). I can't believe how up I've been all day over the 1.5lbs gone. I was really starting to think that I was done losing. I'm so happy that I'm still going. I'm getting in the protein & water and exercising 5-6 days a week so I guess that patience is the key. I hope that you're all having a great weekend! Wahoo! Debbie

I have tried a very very small nibble and it was ok but nothing more or bigger. I have been told not to eat bread it is full of carbs. No tortillas, pizza crust, bread or such. My friend that is 8 mos out is able to eat thin bread well toasted. Good Luck! I DO MISS MY BREAD!!!! WAHHWWW Brenda 325/310/233/152
