Lori,
You aren't the only one. I don't see the changes either... it is probably exactly this blindness that kept me from seeing when I got bigger and bigger as well. I know the clothes fit differently, but if it weren't for that....and most of my clothes are very stretchy so they are shrinking with me somewhat.... it is only in my work uniforms that I realize notice the difference.
Can't believe 6 months has come so quickly...

Topic: Realistic Goals....
I have been reading some posts with questions and concerns about getting to goal etc.
I saw this website on another post on the main message board - thought I would share
www.halls.md/ideal-weight/body.htm
Just add the http://
Interesting how we can get caught up in the numbers and lose focus on the goals that focus on health?....
Then I thought there were a number of questions I would have
1. Who set your goal weight? - your doc, you?, weight charts, BMI charts?? How was the goal for you determined? Or do you even have one?
I looked up on this site and saw what an ideal weight for my height was and took my goal partly from there - just as a number (knew he would ask the question) - did not expect my surgeon to say that was at all reasonable -- had to interrupt him to ask if that was a reasonable goal. He was not flustered in the least.... i was!... he said that 145 was perfectly reasonable.
2. At what point would you be satisfied with your weight loss?? at goal, within 5?, 10?, 15? lbs of goal??? When you achieve certain goals other than a weight??
Anything under 200 lbs is gravy for me!!!! Under 160 is dream land..... To achieve 145 is something I will have to see to believe!!!! I am well on my way to my health goals.... off all BP meds, feel more comfortable in my skin, move about in the world much better. Just waiting to feel better and not so dragged out tired, and weird labs.
3. Did your doctor tailor your surgery according to your weight loss goals??? In other words.... more bypass if you wanted to lose more weight? RNY vs other surgeries?? open vs. laporoscopic???
Yes, my doc bypasses based partly on how much you weigh and how much you want to lose - but focuses on distal bypasses because of his past experience with weight regain. His partner now does all the surgeries but does both proximals and distals. We talked about other surgeries, but he was quite frank about what he recommends, what he will do, and why. My understanding is that distals can only be done "open" at this time, but I am sure as technology and skills advance that will change.
Just wondering how it worked for others????????

Topic: RE: So Frustrated... I need support!
Do you realize how much weight you have lost????? Holy farolies girlfriend, you are down over 100 lbs in 6 mos!!!!! That is 18 lbs a month! Whoa, alot of women would be grateful to have that loss. You will go through those valleys. You are doing so great, Jen. You should be so proud of yourself. I too gained like 3 lbs and then lost it. It is gonna happen. Don't get bent out of shape about this. It has happened to just about everyone online here. You are doing everything correct. Cut yourself a little slack and relax. You are doing fantastic.
Blessings

Topic: RE: I'm finally overweight!
At what point do they say you go from Obese to overweight? I am 179 right now and I don't know what the gauge is for this.
Thanks

Topic: RE: I HIT THE CENTURY MARK!!!!
Sara,
First off, congrats on the Century Mark. I am 5 lbs away from it myself and I am so pysch'd to get there. WHAT AN ACCOMPLISHMENT! You should be very very proud of yourself
Go and do something to celebrate. Buy a new outfit, maybe a sexy bra and pantie set. I did when I hit 75 lbs. NO MORE GRANNY PANTIES FOR ME!!!
I have been counting from my highest as well. Hang in there, the 190's are right around the corner. Good for you
Blessings

I so understand how you feel about what you see in the mirror. I am now in a size 8 petite and can see the difference in pictures, but when I look in the mirror I see a fat person. I have been told it is called dysmorphic body image and plagues many of us. I hope someday I can see what everyone else does

Topic: 70 pounds gone!!!
I am just 4 days shy of my 6 month anniversary and down 70 pounds as of today!!! I know I don't lose as fast as some but I am not the slowest loser either. Not that it would matter....we will all get their in our own sweet time.
I have gone from a TIGHT Size 22W jeans to a very baggy size 12 and a 2X-3X top to a Med-Large depending on brand and style. Not too shabby when my only dream was a size 14 bottom and XL top.
The best part of all of this is my severe acid reflux is gone, my BP is normal, no more sleep apnea, I can run, dance, ride my horses and go all day long. I am starting to feel normal.
I am curious though...when will *I* see the visual changes that everyone raves about? I know my clothes are smaller so I am smaller but I still see the same fat girl in the mirror. Anyone else the same way??
Why are we like this??
