Topic: RE: Anyone still feeling this?
Joe,
This is how someone explained it to me:
Often persons who are obese, especially those who are obese for a long period of their lives, are very often depressed. They tend to self-medicate with food. When we get surgery, we are unable to self-medicate like we used to.... this can precipitate depressive episodes....
Careful now, because the tendency is for humans to do anything to stay out of pain.... so instead of dealing with the depression with therapy and medication.... we can easily self-medicate with other things like alcohol, sex, drama in relationships, drugs, shopping..... anything that give us that same high and numbed out feeling.....
I have been struggling with this myself.... my therapist and I have concluded that I have probably self medicated with food for over 30 yrs??!!!! Bizarre and mind blowing concept. So, we are back to root causes and building foundations that were never there in the first place...
Hang in there! YOu are not alone! I would advise supports groups, individual therapy, and medication if needed.

Topic: RE: HAVING TROUBLE WITH DIZZINESS ANYONE?
I've had the dizziness also and asked the doc. I also more recently get the shakes...my hads get shaky and I feel very weak...I asked the doc about this and they said because I have it mainly in the morning it is low blood sugar...I then eat something with protien, peanut butter or cheese and sit down for a little while and it goes away...Not saying that is your case, but make sure you ask your doc....Good Luck and take care...

Today,05/23/05,I went to my PCP.I see her every 3 months, due to diabetes. She took me off my last and final med!!!YAHOO!!!!I'm now MED-FREE!!!.I'm just under 6 mos out.I've lost 65 lbs(I've lost and regained and lost again).I just take my multivitamin twice daily. What a trade off!!I had my labs drawn again today.I'll repost in a week when I get the results. What a feeling!!!I was on 7 different medications before surgery(Now med free!!).Diabetes,High Blood Pressure,High Cholesterol,Angina(Heart problems),PCOS,Edema,Short of Breath,Chest Pains(unexplained),are just some of the conditions that were caused or made worse by the excess weight.I'm so thankful for Dr.Boe,and this surgery. It has truly made a huge difference in my life.

I'm not there yet, but I'm sooooo excited to have moved from a 44-46 DD to a 40C. I've gone from 28 to 20 in pants and can fit in a large/XL top from 22-24. So that's a way to measure...I try not to get too crazy.

Yes, it still hits me too sometimes. The old ghosts and thoughts are hard to fight back sometimes. It doesn't seem like it has to do specifically with self esteem or body image so I'm not sure if it's physiological or not. Hang in there. We'll get through this too.
