Topic: RE: Severe joint pain Post - op???
Dru - I have not experienced this as a biproduct of the surgery - There is a family history of arthritis and gout and so it seems I began to have joint pains almost on the exact day I turned 40 (I'm sure they started before this - but I remmebr the morning of my birthday waking up, my feet it the floor & I went ogghhhhh with some before unrecognized ankle pain - I use Glucosimine that I get at Costco & just this week started HA - seems to help quite a bit - I wonder if it's just possible that you are experiencing the "joys" of aging - don't know what your age is.... just wondering if this is a possibility?
Hope all tests results again come out well - Could be Lyme disease though if you're in an area of exposure - joint pain is definately a symptom.
Topic: RE: Bowel Obstruction
Wow Michelle -
Reading this scared the hell out of me - I didn't know that the old stomach could cause a possible problem like that - I am so glad you decided to go to the ER - and they were able to diagnose & fix it - That musta been hella scarey for you - I am sending good recovery wishes for you
Pam.
& thank you for sharing - I would now be more inclined to take symptoms of that nature more seriously.

Topic: RE: 7 month check in....
Hi Everyone. This is a great post! I love seeing how everyone else is doing.
My 7 month anniversary is on the 16th, but here are my answers:
1. How much have you lost since your highest weight? Highest weight 315/ surgery weight 302. I have lost 77 from highest and 64 since surgery.
2. What percentage of your excess weight have you lost? (total lost / # of lbs to lose x 100)? My goal is 160 so that is 45% since surgery. (Getting discouraged that it is such a low % .)
3. What is one major behavioral change you have made since surgery? (and intend to keep as a lifelong habit)? Not eating junk food - small portions and no sodas.
4. Have you lost a job, long-time friend, significant other since surgery??
Nope. Close though.
5. What is the funnest thing you can do now that you couldn't do before surgery??
Sex is definately much better. Also, just being able to move better is great.
Keep up the good work everyone!
Shelly

Topic: RE: How much?
I had surgery 11/01. I started at 291.5 and now weigh 205.5. I used to evaluate my progress (or lack thereof) based on what I read from others--Susan Maria for example. Now I base my progress on how good I feel and the things I am able to accomplish. I started out in a 24W, now I wear a 16W--I will be glad when I no longer have to put the "W" behind that but...in the last few months, I've been horseback riding which I couldn't do before because of weight restrictions, iceskating, and I've been to the beach. I couldn't (or wouldn't do those things a year ago). My goal is to successfully complete a 5k run next year. Right now I'm still just walking. Hang in there. Slow and steady wins the race! I'm proud of all of us.

Topic: RE: Confused About Calcium
My doctors recommendations are that we should have calcium citrate post-op which is better absorbed by us. But they suggest an occasional Viactiv as a sweet treat. The other problem with Viactiv is that is adds a lot of carbs if its your only source of Calcium.
This is extrememly important...the end result of too little calcium does not show up until several years later and can mean osteoporosis.
Take care, Jo

Thanks for the info
When I started surgery my goal was to lose 100 pounds in a year. I guess when we actually have surgery, we get over anxious
God has given us a miracle
