I have to agree with Pamela. I pretty much eat what I want with the exception of desserts. I eat ribs, chicken, steak, etc. I eat some potatoes. I, like Pam can't eat it all if I wanted to. Which I have wanted to. LOL I usually eat the meat first. A couple of forkfuls of potatoes, I eat some of the veggies. I may take a bite of bread but I'm ok without it. I just went to a family bbq last sunday and watched as my family ate two different ice cream cakes and a chocolate cake too! I ate fruit. I really wanted some of the ice cream cake but I know that I can't so I don't. Tuesday I had an end of year party with a church group I belong to. Again I watched them all eat cake and cookies. Again I ate fruit. I'm thankful for the fruit. It's very hard but in the end I remind myself of how far I've come and how I can breathe now and feel so much better now. Don't deprive yourself too much. Just don't OVER indulge. God bless, ~Angel 255/222/144/118

Hi Alice, It happened to me a few times so far. Once at my office, the landlord was there and he hasn't seen me in over a year. He walked right passed me twice. I thought, "How rude" until I called him by his name and spoke to him. He did a double take and said "Angel? OMG you lost so much weight" So that would explain why he walked passed me twice. He didn't know it was me. Then the 2nd time it happened was at the race track. Some guy I've know for almost 20 yrs told me that he didn't recognize me the week before. I said I didn't understand because he had waved to me. He said "yeah, to be polite. I didn't know who you were until I saw you walking with Charlie" So that felt good. It's funny how I forget that I look different. I see from the inside out, so I forget until I see the other person's reaction. God bless, ~Angel 255/222/144/118

I don't live near my dad and the last time he saw me was a month before surgery. Last month I went down to CA for my brother's wedding and my dad was picking me up at the airport. He was to meet me outside the baggage claim. Well, I had really, really long hair last time we met and I chopped it off above my shoulders and I never told him (he he). (Any time I cut my hair when I lived with him, he'd NEVER notice!). He didn't recognize me and I had to flag him down! With the loss of weight and hair I've been told that I look '10 years younger'. When I asked him if he recognized me he said hesitantly 'of course.. but it took a minute..' Ha ha! Got-him! (We play jokes on each other). Jennifer

That's a great story SuZQ! Isn't it funny? I guess when we don't recognize ourselves we shouldn't be surprised when others don't. But I still get surprised. Thanks for sharing. xoxo Alice From Dallas 11/10/04 285/183/175

When I went to visit my brother's home last month, 1st visit since WLS, my nephew (age 6) answered the door asked me "Who are you?" I told him it was me, Aunt Sue, but I don't think he quite believed me. He went and got my sister-in-law to open the door.

Topic: WHO'S THAT IN THE PICTURE?
My daughter was looking through some photo books at my mother-in-law's house. It was a family member's wedding from 2 years ago. She saw her dad and then saw another woman in a large print dress with swollen feet facing the other way and she asked her dad "is this Mom?" He just nodded his head that it was and she just couldn't believe how large I was then. Now that she's getting used to seeing me thinner she can't see the the other way. My daughter is 20 and had never seen me thin in her life. To tell you the truth I knew she never would before I had my surgery. Even I was shocked by the picture. Anyone else have a story about someone not recognizing you? Alice From Dallas 11/10/04 285/183/175

Wow Lisa! You are really doing well! 133 pounds already? WhooHoo!!! It is very surreal when I look in the mirror and see someone looking back that I don't really recognize. Yep my feet have shrunk too. I'm in a size 8 shoe from 9.5. I'm in size 14 from 22's. I'm 5'9" tall too so I really don't look like I used to. Keep it up now.. We all deserve to feel this way. Thanks SueZQ! Before too long you're gonna be too skinny to be a gummi bear. Take care of yourself and enjoy the ride. xoxo Alice

Topic: RE: Does anyone want to pig out-like me
Okay - I'm going to go against the grain here - but this is my thought - I have had MAJOR pig out cravings - last night I wanted, ribs, garlic bread, mashed potatoes, corn on the cob & watermelon. So - I cooked it all & I served myself a plate & I ate - I know for a fact that I cannot eat everything I served myself - I know that if I did I would be sooooo unwell. BUT just the feeling that I didn't have a yogurt sitting in front of me - or a pile of cottage cheese - that it was a real meal felt great & I ate.... One - three bites of the potatoes, one rib, and a bite of the corn & a bite of the garlic bread - calories - about 350 - 400ish. Okay for a meal & I got the satisfaction of having something i really wanted. I've kind of done this since I got the green light to add more solid food - i can not nor do i EVER want to eat like I did pre surgery & I've spent more money than I need on food I couldn't eat but wanted a taste of te whole gamut. Did this recently with a chinese plate of noodles, rice, meat and egg roll - I ate a bite of the carbs and enjoyed the meat. My weight loss has slowed to about 1-2 pounds a week - but this is pretty normal at this stage of the game & eating as I need to - (which is not to say I don't have MOST of my meals as a cup of yogurt or a cheese stick) I am fixing my brain and my weight at the same time. Trying to have a new normal life. Not one I can't stick to forever. So I guess - if your brain says you need a pig out - try it - I'd be willing to bet your body won't allow it - but if you put it in perspective and say I'm going to enjoy the one or two bites I get of these things I MUST have - you may find they are the best one or two bites you've ever had... The journey IS part of the destination.
