I just saw my nutritionist because I was having the same issues. Guess what? She put me on a meal plan eating MORE food! My plan includes eating 3 meals and 3 snacks a day, each one is 4-5 oz. However, my total calories are still about 1000-1200 per day. We are so overprepared for those first few months post-op--"only eat 1-2 tablespoons, don't gulp water" etc. etc., and not enough focus is given to long term. 4 oz is only one half-cup! It's perfectly normal to eat that much at this stage. Of course, every surgeon and nutritionist are a little bit different, so you should call and ask if you are worried. L.

Topic: Eating too much????
Hi! I normally am a lurker here and get such great insight and advice from the postings here! I have lost 123 pounds and feel wonderful. I would like to lose about 15 more, but have been concerned that I am eating too much. I eat 4 oz of food 3 times a day and a light afternoon snack. Is 4 oz too much? Even as I type this I am thinking that that sounds silly, but I am soooooo afraid of gaining the weight back. People think I should still only be eating a tablespoon of food and I get comments like "Wow! You can eat all that!" and then I think ....well.....should I be eating all this? Is anyone else eating this much? or is it too much??? Thanks! Michelle

Hi Carla so sorry your going through this. I can't imagine being on my 4th surgery. I had surgery last Wed for an internal hernia, a little different animal but still no fun. I have to say though, one of the last things I said before being put out was I would so do this again in a heartbeat. I am down 137 pounds and feeling so much better. I am also so shocked at how quickly I am recovering this time from surgery, I am 4 days out and I am up and functioning pretty well. Please take care you will be in my thoughts come monday.((((((HUGS))))))KatherineL

Topic: LISTEN TO YOUR BODY
Hi all I finally made it to the November board to post. I wanted to remind all of us to listen to our bodies when they are telling us something is wrong. I started with severe stomach pains last Sunday, by Wed I ended up in the hospital with emergency surgery for an internal hernia. I was thankful it was caught early and so no intestines has to be removed, however 2/3 of it had gone through the hole and was on the verge of dying. Had I even waited another day, it would have been a whole different story. I am thankful that my surgeon was on top of things and got me into surgery right away and would not let me wait. I made my first contact with my doc on Sunday night, but it took til Wednesday for us to come to the conclusion that this was probably the problem. I have had a lot of stomach and intestinal pain in the past and this was not as intense as some of the other experiences I had. So needles to say I was a little shocked and did not want to have surgery at first, but boy am I glad I listened to my doctor. Anyhow I am doing really well now and well on the way to full recovery. Please take care all. KatherineL

Hiya B, Wow - everyone is doing great - and a special congratulations to Erin who is down 101% of her excess weight!!! GOAL!!!!! WOO HOOO Ok - how am I doing? 1. My total excess weight was 100 lbs. 2. I have lost 96 lbs. 3. I have lost 96% of my excess weight. 4. Some new things I am trying are running, running in races instead of sitting on the side like a lump on a log and feeling out of place while my hubby brought home medals from the races, buying clothes in nice stores that usually cater only to the thin - hey wait - thats me now!! hehehe 5. My life has mostly changed in just the feedom I feel physically to do so many new things. Nothing holds me back, no pain in my legs or my back (well still a little pain in my back but that is nothing like it was). Also, I dont feel like people are looking at me and saying "oh my, look at that fat lady, why doesnt she just stop eating?" I am ashamed to say that when I was in high school (I was thin and fit back then) and went to the gym and saw women my size that is what I thought in my head about them. 6. I guess what surprises me most about my new life is just how great I feel being me!! LOL God bless you and keep you, ~Andrea
