Topic: 9 month check up -- and walking in ONEderland finally!
I haven't seen my surgeon since I was 1 month post-op, because I live 200 miles away. I made a long weekend of this visit and done the Cincinnati OH.com conference also.. What a blast! A bunch of us met for dinner on Friday night, then Sat conference, then onto King's Island after that.. can we say LONG DAY! But so fun!! And YES I FIT on ALL the rides! ok so my check up went... I signed in and was waiting to be seen... and Dr. Curry walked past the door from the waiting room to the exam rooms 4 times, each time he peered into the waiting room, he had this look on his face, yanno the one, where people think they know you, but just can't quite place ya? LoL His look was priceless.. so I get to an exam room and he told me, I just really didn't know who you were. So we talk, he documents, he asked what I weighed.. said well yesterday I was 200.4, and I'm on vacation soooo, he said in any regards I was doing fantastic. He checked my incision area's as I said I was having a poking pinching thing going on in one area.. no hernia yet, but there is very weak area there. We went over my meds, health issues, I had brought along the shirt I first met with him in, he said, "I want pic's." We talked about my "goal weight" which he said about 168 on my frame. Then he also said that half of that was probably skin. YIKES! but ok, I'm nearing that goal. So then he sends me to the nurses.. the official weigh in ... dum da dum dum.... 198.2 I am offically in ONEDERLAND! Now this is a big deal for me as I have not weighed this in over 25 yrs! From my highest weight now I have lost 150.6 lbs! Still obese though *sigh* But only a few more lbs till I"m in the normal range now! So I had to go shopping! first thing that drew my eye when walking in the store was the jewelry counter.. got me a new diamond ring.. size 7, goes on, but tight coming off.. but 9 months ago I could NOT get a 10 on my finger! Well just thought I'd drop in and a little. I think I have done pretty well so far ! Vickie 11/22/04 348.8/318/198.2/ the rest is icing! (well my original goal was just to be under 200, soo)

Topic: RE: Hernia!
Hi, I have developed 2 hernias and they really show thru my clothes It makes me so self conscious...even more so than when I was really overweight prior to surgery. My doctor wants to wait at least a year before he operates unless it becomes an emergency. I have some really rough days with it but nothing warranting a trip to the ER. I am hoping to have the surgery done after the holidays. I am thinking mine might be similiar to yours in that one is right near my incision and my incision scar is really wide because it opened up after surgery. My other hernia is right under my sternum. I believe I developed both of these from bouts with bronchitis after surgery and the really extreme coughing is what opened up my abdominal cavity. What symptoms were you having to have surgery so soon?? I knew I had the hernias about 2-3 months after surgery and so far am about 9 months out. The good thing for me is that when I have the hernias repaired...I get a "tummy tuck" sorta thing in the process

Topic: Hernia!
Hey guys, I had my surgery in November 2004 and have went from weighing 295 to 192!!! I feel so great! But I had to have hernia surgery last thursday. It was supposed to be a same day surgery and then I could go home that day but I ended up having to stay overnight. He found out my hernia was the size of my whole incision and my whole large intestine was poking out. Pretty gross huh? I'm feeling a little better, mostly been laying around on the couch. Supposed to see him tomorrow to have the drainage tube removed. Has anyone else had problems with hernias since surgery? Its an awful thing.

Hi everyone - This is my first official "post" to the Board. I'm a lurker here and usually just read all the good information you share, but today I felt compelled to post my own message. I am officially under 200 pounds! When I stepped on the scale at the gym (I don't have a scale at home on purpose), I thought it was wrong and that I had gained. DUH... What a shock when I realized I was pushing the weight the wrong way! I knew it would eventually happen, but I didn't realize how it would affect me when it finally occurred. Anyway, thank you for "listening" and sharing my good news! Denise 349/326/196/150

hi, thanks so much for all the replys . I know its my own fault that im stuck where im at ..... It sucks that those stupid carbs come back into your life lol . I will continue to try harder to eat more fruit and veggies. I am not much of a meat eater except for my chicken . I was really hoping to see 130 by nov. 22 nd my year for wls , but if i get closer ill be happy too . thanks again , trishie

Hiya Trishie, They do say that we lose the most weight in the first six months. I have some questions for you... Not that you need to answer them here, but maybe just consider them, and see if one or more of your answers to these questions might lead you to make a change in some things you are doing: 1. Are you eating enough? Some people are eating too little - I think we should be at around 1200 - 1400 calories per day now - according to my surgeon - maybe you can ask your surgeon or nutritionist about that. 2. Are you eating the right things? Have carbs snuck their way back into your diet? Are you concentrating still on proteins and veggies? 3. Are you drinking mostly water? Are you drinking too much caffeine? Have you let carbonated beverages come back? 4. Are you exercising? For me, I think this has been key. I began an exercise program back when I first had surgery and have continued with it. I now run 4 - 5 days per week, 3 - 5 miles per day. This has helped to keep my metabolism high and my energy level way up. 5. Are you taking your vitamins? Not that I think this will necessarily derail weightloss if you dont take them, but they help to keep our entire body healthy. Trishie, I am also on the short side - 5'2" and I had a bit more to lose than you did - I weighed in at 223 when I began this journey. We do lose more slowly than others because maybe we have less to lose but we should be able to lose the weight we want to. The above questions are the only things I can think of that could be hindering you. If you dont think any of them are the problem, maybe you can talk to your surgeon or nutrtionist and they can give you some other ideas. I can imagine how frustrated you are. I know how frustrated I was during a month long plateau so I can imagine how it is for two months. Keep us posted on how it goes with you. God bless you and keep you, ~Andrea
