Can we talk about food please
Hello everyone and happy anniversary to all the November surgeries!!!
I have been reading many of the posts and I identify with how many of you feel, the struggles, head hunger, etc. I would like to ask everyone what a typical day of eating is like for you? I would like as many people as possible to post responses as I think it will be useful to all of us. What works? What sets you back the most? What about exercise? How much exercise are you doing and what kind of exercise are you doing? Nobody can understand the frustrations over slow weight loss, weight flucuations, head hunger, guilt over eating something wrong or wanting to, joy over losing weight, etc. like others in the same cir****tance. It would be very helpful to me personally to hear this from my "WLS" family. Especially with upcoming holidays and new challenges to face. I thank all of you in advance who will post replys. Hope everyone is feeling well, happy and healthy!
Sincerely,
Laura
Hi Laura,
A Typical day for me is eating cereal in morning. Either Quaker Weight Control oatmeal or Special K low carb w/ skim milk. I add raisins to both. Occassionally I'll have eggs.
Lunch~ depends on the day. But I always try to get protein in first. Then veggies if possible.
Dinner~same as lunch. I can eat anything, beef, pork, chicken. I only eat whole wheat pasta. And not often. I eat bread sometimes but only whole grains.
As for snacks... sugar free cookies,sf pudding, lots of fruit, pretzels, nuts. I try to be conscience of the serving sizes and make myself stop. I don't drink anything w/ carbonation. Only crystal light or decaf tea. No sugar ever. I do get hungry (head hunger) I just grab a piece of fruit. I don't think I ever got fat eating too much fruit. LOL. I try to stay busy so i'm not tempted to eat.
Now exercise...i'm not as good as I should be. I went to the gym twice this week. I walk about 20 minutes on a treadmill or longer if I can. I do the crunch machines and work on my arms and legs with the machines at the gym. I try to walk whenever I can. I park further away at malls, supermarkets etc. So I have to walk more.
I hope this helps you. I wish luck on your journey and thru the holidays!!

A typical day for goes like this;
6:00 am, go to the gym, 30 min cardio (either eliptical or treadmill) and about 15 min weight workout. I alternate days on arms & legs and about 10 minutes of crunches. I go 4 times a week and once on the weekends. I also walk on my breaks at work.
8:00 at work I eat breakfast, this varies everyday but options are a sausage patty, protien shake, protien bar and some form of carbs. (toast or pastry)
10:30ish a snack, either a piece of fruit or a piece of candy
1:00 lunch, usually leftovers from previous dinner or a salad. Always high protien and vegitables though
3;00 munchies kick in....I usually go for a protien bar but if someone has something sweet, I will have a bite or two.
6:00 dinner, either fish, chicken or meat and a vegitable.
7:30 snack, sugar free pudding or popcicle.
I know some days I do better than others and I try not to beat myself up over them. And I know that my carb mornings hurt some days but since I am still slowly losing, it works for me. The holidays are going to be challenging I am sure. Good post.

Hi Laura,
can hardly believe it's been a year!
7am Kashi Lean (3/4-1c) w/raisins (1/4c) and skim milk (2/3-1c) or
eggs or oatmeal
7:45a coffee and 1-2 low sugar bisquits
10:30 1 stick of low-fat stick cheese
11:30-12-ish sandwich (turkey breast, tuna fish, etc) or salad w/ same
4p-ish protein bar (or 1/2 the lunch sandwich)
7:30p protein, veg (this is my smallest meal)
I'm not so good with exercise and would lose more if I exercised more.
good luck Jan
Well I have wondered this also.....What am I eating compared to the rest of you....
Here is my day!
I get up at 5:45 to walk at 6. I walk/jog 2.5-3 miles 6 days a week.
About 9 I have an egg with cheese and onion usually. Sometimes I eat a protein bar, depending on the day.
In between breakfast and lunch, I eat a TBSP of Peanut butter.
Lunch is usually some kind of protein. Rather a 3 ounce chicken breast of some tuna salad. If I have the tuna salad, I eat 2 triscuits along with it. Sometimes I eat like summer sausage with a bit of cheese, and also a couple triscuits. I buy the reduced fat ones. I also try to get a bit of veggie in here too.
In between, I eat another TBSP of peanut butter.
For supper I eat around 3 ounces of meat. Rather it is chicken or lean butterfly chops, once in a while hamburger (Or I make taco meat and add cheese, some fresh veggies and toppings) With all my food I ALWAYS eat my protein first and then I eat other. Whether it be veggie or a couple bites of potato. I can never eat more than a few bites though, especially after eating my protein.
Around 9 is a hard time for me. I get hungry. So, I either eat another TBSP of peanut butter or a handful of peanuts, or a bit more summer sausage with cheese. I figure the protein is better than snacking on chips or popcorn like I used to!!
I have to eat the peanut butter because I cannot tolerate the taste of anything sweet. Otherwise I don't get enough protein and this way, it adds about 10 grams per day! I can't stand protein drinks or any kind of sf pudding or sweet tasting things....It just doesn't set well.
I drink mostly water, fruit2o and Diet Snapple Peach tea. Once in a while I DO drink a diet coke with lime and it has never bothered me. I have NEVER tried anything with sugar in it, but I did try SF pudding and ice cream and they both made me feel clammy and sweaty, like the dumping syndrome, so I haven't tried again!! Sometimes it isn't easy, especially when my kids are eating halloween candy or a donut or something....But I figure, I didn't go through all of this, lose 155 lbs so far, to gain ANY back...I know sometimes you do gain a bit back, but I am trying so hard to do as I should be.
Have a wonderful day all and I can't wait to read the rest of your responses!!
Teresa
