Hi Everyone! I am having a problem and I hope you can offer me some advice! I always get such good insight whenever I post a question and from reading others posts. So here goes......(and please forgive the "pity party").... I am tired! I mean really tired --like in my muscles and bones tired. I have been feeling this way for about 6 months ( I am now a year out from my WLS), but lately it is really affecting my life. For example, I never feel rested and could fall asleep at the drop of a hat...and do! I have fallen asleep twice waiting at a red light. I don't have the energy to do simple things and I hate feeling that way. I have been so proud of my weight loss-- I was down 140 pounds, but this morning I was up 3 pounds. Now, normally I don't obsess over a few pounds as I know things fluctuate. But, I know this gain is because I have been grazing all day as a result of this tiredness and I can't go back to those old habits. I take my b-12 everyday and have the shot every 3 months from my Dr. office. I just really need any help you can offer. Thanks so much!! Michelle

I kinda know what you are feeling, although not to the extreme you are going through. For me, I know it has to be related to my thyroid. I have hypothyroid and have not been on my meds since May (due to lack of insurance) and I am feeling the effects of being off of them for that long, The major signs are tired and constant feeling cold. I finally got insuance again and am going to have bloodwork done to get back on track. Have you had your thyroid checked? It might be the culprit.

Hi Michelle - My opinion is that you aren't getting enough vitamins and/or protein. Please check with your nutritionist and have them run blood work to check your levels. I've had no problems with energy at all since my surgery, but I take the Optisource vitamins (4/day) and get my 80 grams of protein a day. I hope this helps! Denise

Hiya Michelle, I know for me, I get tired when I dont eat enough protein and/or I eat too many complex carbs. I feel bogged down - just like everything physically and emotionally is pulling me down. When I feel like this I take a look at what I have been eating in the past week and ALWAYS I have slacked on my protein and picked up on my complex carbs (usually pretzels). Also, usually it happens when I havent been able to get in my usual 3 to 4 days of exercise (either running or elliptical). I am not sure which is the cause and which is the effect but I know that when I get my food intake and exercise on track I feel so much better! So my suggestion for you is to take a look at what it is you are snacking on - is it complex carbs? Are you getting enough protein in? Are you exercising? And then the other thing is also the water - are you drinking enough water (not including anything with caffeine!). If none of these things are the issue, and you are taking your vitamins like you are supposed to, I would go to the doctor and see if maybe there is some other medical issue causing this. Keep us posted!! God bless you and keep you, ~Andrea

Hi Michelle, I have had the same problem and it was my thyroid...just got started on meds this week. It made me so mad because for years doctors have told me "lose weight and you will feel better and have more energy" and there I was still waiting to feel good. Go see your doctor and tell him/her your concerns. Good Luck, Lori

Hi All, I am sliding back into bad eating habits again. This is a constant battle for me. I have been feeling tired, like the lady said bone tired. I scheduled an appt with the surgeon on this Friday and have printed out some of the threads on our site. Hopefully I will get what ever I need to boost the process again. Wish me luck and I will keep you updated also. Lizzi

For me, I know it is my thyroid. When was the last time you had your bloodwork? Did they check you TSH levels as well? If not, have your doctor do this, it might be the source. The other posters responses also make sense but since everyone is different, you may as well cover all the bases.
