Eating too much????
Hi!
I normally am a lurker here and get such great insight and advice from the postings here!
I have lost 123 pounds and feel wonderful. I would like to lose about 15 more, but have been concerned that I am eating too much. I eat 4 oz of food 3 times a day and a light afternoon snack. Is 4 oz too much? Even as I type this I am thinking that that sounds silly, but I am soooooo afraid of gaining the weight back. People think I should still only be eating a tablespoon of food and I get comments like "Wow! You can eat all that!" and then I think ....well.....should I be eating all this?
Is anyone else eating this much? or is it too much???
Thanks!
Michelle
I just saw my nutritionist because I was having the same issues.
Guess what? She put me on a meal plan eating MORE food! My plan includes eating 3 meals and 3 snacks a day, each one is 4-5 oz. However, my total calories are still about 1000-1200 per day.
We are so overprepared for those first few months post-op--"only eat 1-2 tablespoons, don't gulp water" etc. etc., and not enough focus is given to long term.
4 oz is only one half-cup! It's perfectly normal to eat that much at this stage.
Of course, every surgeon and nutritionist are a little bit different, so you should call and ask if you are worried.

Hi Michelle it sounds like you are doing wonderful. I too feel the way you do about how much I eat, however we cannot go on forever eating like birds. When people make comments I just tell them well I could go back to eating like a bird, but then I would also start losing again like wildfire, and I don't think that is healthy at this point either. Your pictures look wonderful and it's easy to see that you are at a point that you don't even look overweight anymore. I have to laugh if anything I think I get a little more of people saying wow finally your eating something lol, as if I had a choice before lol. It sounds like you are eating a healthy amount and definitly not too much 4 oz is not too much it is within the guidlines and as long as it is the foods you are alowed I don't see the problem. Take care and congrats on your sucess. KatherineL
Hiya Michelle,
I figured I will add my two cents worth to the good advice you have already gotten. First off, dont listen to anyone who has no idea what they are talking about. There are many people out there who dont know the first thing about weight loss surgery but love to tell us what to do and how to do it.
Secondly, I eat more than you do. At breakfast lunch and dinner I can consume up to 8 oz of food plus a snack of about 2 - 3 oz of food in between breakfast and lunch, lunch and dinner and often after dinner as well. So according to what I eat, you are certainly not eating too much.
God bless you and keep you,
~Andrea
Hi,
I like this board because we are all the same amount of months out. I can eat at least 4 ounces at each meal--depending on what it is. If I am too hungry and eat to fast the 4th bite causes discomfort and I remind myself not to go so long without eating. I keep track of my calories, fat, carbs, sugar, and protein for all I eat. I stay at 1000 - 1150 calories. Honestly I think I could consume more but don't. My loss has slowed but it's not the food it's the fact that I have so little left to loose! And I can't stand those comments about 'wow you can eat that much? You were only eating 3 tablespoons at Christmas.' I think you are doing great
Hi Michelle! We are surgery TWINS! Woohhoooo!
I'd just like to point out that you're eating approximately 12 oz of food a day. That's a cup and a half of food in 24 hours! Plus your small snack. OK, maybe 16 oz or two cups a day?
Now you're scaring ME! I eat much more than that and I continue to lose!
I'm more concerned that you are not eating enough!
Do you have a dietician you can talk with or contact one at your surgeon's office?
I have not done that but we can't go on forever eating 2 tablespoons of food per meal! KWIM?
Best to you!
