LISTEN TO YOUR BODY
Hi all I finally made it to the November board to post. I wanted to remind all of us to listen to our bodies when they are telling us something is wrong. I started with severe stomach pains last Sunday, by Wed I ended up in the hospital with emergency surgery for an internal hernia. I was thankful it was caught early and so no intestines has to be removed, however 2/3 of it had gone through the hole and was on the verge of dying. Had I even waited another day, it would have been a whole different story. I am thankful that my surgeon was on top of things and got me into surgery right away and would not let me wait. I made my first contact with my doc on Sunday night, but it took til Wednesday for us to come to the conclusion that this was probably the problem. I have had a lot of stomach and intestinal pain in the past and this was not as intense as some of the other experiences I had. So needles to say I was a little shocked and did not want to have surgery at first, but boy am I glad I listened to my doctor. Anyhow I am doing really well now and well on the way to full recovery. Please take care all. KatherineL
Hi Jaimee thanks for your kind thoughts. I am doing much better just if ya check the time of this post you'll see I am REALLY off on my sleeping schedule lol. Anyhow tonight I am feeling sooooo much better, I think partly because I was allowed to eat soft foods today, and I finally got my starbuck lol. Take care and congrats on your sucess since surgery your doing great. KatherineL
Hi katherine,
How often did you have pain and for how long? When did it start?
I had some pain last week, like Fri, Sat & Sun. Sat. I was at Walmart and just hurt the whole time and on Sunday too. I was standing up front with the worship team holding my stomach trying to sing. Man, when it was prayer request time you can bet I ask for prayer. By the time church was over the pain was gone, but I have had some light pains and nausea. It was like in the very pit of my stomach. Does this sound like what you had? Thanks for sharing with us and Im so glad you're okay.
God bless,
Rhonda D
Hi Rhonda when I look back at the situation I had several episodes like you are describing, where I was hurting but not enough to bother the doctor. Believe me when the intestines finally cut off the pain was quite intese. I have had a lot of bowel issues in the past that caused me a great deal of pain, so at first I was not that worried. However this pain was so different, it was very sharp, and it felt as though someone had a rubberband tightening around my waist and ribs. I hurt from my ribs clear into my left hip. I also had never had pain that was worse on one side, this was definitly worse on my left side. By monday they gave me a shot of demerol, on top of the vicodin I already had taken, and I still could not stand up straight. I also had what felt like a ball rolling around in there. It turned out I was feeling my intestines moving, trying to get back in place. Anyhow if you have ANY question as to weather you are experiencing these thing I would get into your doc as soon as possible. It is really hard to diagnose, and pretty much they look at that when everything else has been eliminated. A thing to note too that I thought meant that I was safe was the fact that I had cleaned out the night before, I had no problems with bowel movements, I always thought if your intestines were cut off from oxegen that you wouldn't have bowel movements but I did. They were very painful but still there. Please take care and let me know how you are doing. I hope all goes well for you. Take care

Thanks for answering back so quick. I too had alot of bowel problems and pain before WLS. I had my galbladder out in 1980 and have had problems since, until WLS. I have not experienced any pain like that at all until last week. Like I say the pain has stopped now, but if it happens even one more time I will call and make an appointment. Thanks for the concern.
You look great, BTW. Keep up the work! I only like 23 pds being to my goal of getting under 200! I can hardly wait!
God Bless,
