Who has joined Curves?
I am thinking about joining "Curves". I called and made an appointment to go in and tour the facility and talk about my goals but they would not tell me the enrollment fee or how much the monthly cost is! That kinda made me mad... so I need ya'lls help!
Can you guys help me with this?
If you have joined Curves... what do you pay per month and how much was the enrollment fee?
Thank you guys!!!
Jen
Hiya Jen,
I do not belong to Curves now but I did belong from May of 2003 through May of 2004. The enrollment fee at that time was $150 plus it was $40 per month. For the most part I enjoyed it - I was in and out in just over 30 minutes (with stretching) and I had a cardiovascular workout while toning muscle at the same time. I had a problem though. I developed (or had it already and aggrevated it) a bulging disc in my neck from bouncing on the little pads in between each machine. I am sure that if I joined now it would be different because I have 86 lbs less bouncing on my joints and stuff, but I have decided not to go back. Instead I purchased an elliptical machine (no impact) and I also bicycle and I have begun running (yes impact, but much less weight impacting!! lol). I can do these things on my own schedule and not have to stick with Curves schedule ( 9 am - 12 noon, and 3 PM - 7 PM) I am able to get my workouts in when they are convenient for me (6:00 am) and not have to worry if I am going to get to Curves in time to do my workout. I did hear that some Curves have changed the limited schedule but not the ones by me.
So thats my $.02 worth
God bless you and keep you,
~Andrea

Hi Jen
I joined about 3 months ago. I think it cost 75 to enroll, they say they were running a special 75 off but I think that is always the special. Anyway, I pay $40.00 per month. I think it is a good workout but you have to get your heart rate up there to get the benefits. I see people who don't even break a sweat. It's quick and effective which is nice but I do other things as well because i just think 30 minutes is not enough. Good Luck, it is definitely worth it to me

Hi there, I go to Curves 3 times a week. I absolutely love it...it has made a HUGE difference in my body and stamina. It's really the healthiest thing I do for myself.
It's also easy and convenient for me, what makes a great deal of difference.
I pay $39.00 a month and they had a special offer (they often do) for the membership fee so it was waived. The $39 is automatically deducted from my bank account.
It's a lot of fun...I recommend it.

I have no personal experience with Curves, I am a member of Omni Gym and its 40$ a mnth. That sounds about average for most gyms. The reason I am responding is due to what info I could get from my best friend about her Curves experience.
I was under the impression its a great place to go if you want a quick in/out 30 min routine, follow the numbers don't think.
I am in no way putting down, or saying those of you whom are members and enjoy it "don't think". I simply get the impression its a place to go and not have to worry about what you should and shouldn't do, but simply follow the program. For busy individuals with not much time this is great.
My friend felt she was restricted and could not do extra work on any one area, because you move from station to station in specific time intervals.
Are all Curves facilities like this, or are some different?
I would suggest learning the "routine" from someone who goes to curves, then joining a larger full service gym and incorporating the "routine" into your work out. Seems you would have more flexability with time of day to go, and amount of time in each area etc. Most gyms have "programs" similair to curves, groups you can join, or trainers (included in the fee) to help you make a routine specific to you.
Good Luck.
I just thought you might want to think long term, if at a later date you want more options and are tied into a contract.

O.K. so I joined Curves last night. I paid a $49.00 start-up fee and $29.00 a month deducted off my credit card.
What is so funny is that they told me the enrollment fee was $150.00 but since I was the "100th" customer I will get my enrollment fee at 66% off and only have to pay $49.00 plus the 1st month at $29.00! I thought that was bull but I joined anyway. I need to do this for myself!
Thanks for all the responses!

We have a big gym here called LA Fitness...pool and everything. I looked into a Curves it was small and bleak. I think Curves is a step in the right direction from Obesity and no excercise. But, for me I need cardio work and stranght training. My best bet is a gym. And Curves is not to cheap after reading alot of posts. I guess Curves only really works if you get your heart rate up and alot just go there and never do that. For my busck a gym with all the right machines plus a lap pool is my best ber. I am going to join in June when I get back from Sc.........2 week vacation that is coming up real sson. Sandy in Tucson 340/240/150
I joined Curves in Atlanta in Jan. 2005 and I love it! I paid 75.00 enrollment (which I was told was half off) and I pay 29.00 per month debiting from my checking with a year contract. It is great.....but I have lost some enthusiasm as it is hard to find the time to go! I love the monthly report they give showing the inches and pounds lost. It is truly great motivation and tracking!! It is a good program going from no exercise and WLS. I mean, how could we go directly to a regular gym from no prior conditioning??
I think that you will really enjoy!

Just wanted to put in my 2 cents. I belong to Butterfly Life gym. They just opened up here in CT, I hear there are a lot in CA. They have the circuit with weight bearing machines. You can up the weights when you need to. They also run aeorbic, step, yoga and pilates classes all day. So you can get your circuit training and aerobic activity in. Although the circuit is designed to be aerobic activity. Women need light weights and high repetition.
Curves is a good place to begin. But their machines are not weight bearing machines, they are hydraulic. So after you get used to them, they no longer do the job that you need. Plus there is only the circuit training and the hours are limited. You should continue with Curves but also do some walking.
Good luck with whatever you continue doing. We all are realizing that something is better than nothing. We need to keep it up for lifetime.
