I am 5'7" tall and weighed 271 at day of surgery. My ideal weight is 135 (what my doctor calls run way model weight) and I have lost 70 pounds so I have lost 52% of my excess body weight.

Teresa, Is that your goal weight? 135. For your height that seems to be pretty low. I am also 5'7" and my dr. & I decided that 150 -155 would be ideal for me. Based on my bone structure anything lower would make me too thin. ( I can't believe I can acutally type that)

135 is what my doctor likes to call models runway weight. She uses this to determine the 50% loss that she would consider a successful weight loss from surgery. She thinks I should get down to 160-170 I hope to get to 145-150 or whatever weight I feel good at.
So Blessed!

My goal is a bit more modest than other people's I guess. I'm not really going by the BMI charts. I'm looking at the build of the women in my family (genetics) to get a realistic idea of what size I will eventually be. There are no skinny women in my family; most are short, busty, curvy and even at their smallest, their sizes range between 12-16. At my starting weight of 280 I was wearing 24/26. Today I weigh exactly 200. Some of my clothes, depending on the manufacturer, are in sizes 14-18. Because of my build, I always have to go a size larger with my tops. My goal is to get down to about a size 12/14. I'm estimating that a weight of somewhere around 175 would put me there. That would put me at 76% to goal. Wow... Thanks for this post. Helps put things in perspective. SueZQ

Thanks for the post, it's a real pick me up. I have been thinking I'm doing terrible but by the calculations I've lost 60% of the excess weight! Tho for the ideal weight I used the top of the scale, cause I come from rather large peasant stock...But still 48% if I use the bottom of the scale. funny tho, I still don't see a difference when I look in the mirror.... diane

By my calculations, I've lost 83% of my weight!!! I can't believe it. I'm 5'9" and weigh 190 today. I started at 285 and am trying to get to 170. So this makes me very happy. Thanks for an interesting post. xoxo AliceFromDallas 11/10/04 285/190/170
