I know we all started out from different places and some of us have a farther than others so I thought it would be interesting to focus on the % of excess weight we have lost. If you don't know how to do this you can find the BMI calculator and from there the weight planner on the main page and it will do some of this for you. Take the weight you have lost total to date - divide it by the total excess weight you had at the beginning (highest weight) and multiply by 100 = % of excess weight lost. (Interestingly enough the average bariatric patient tends to lose 60 - 70% of excess weight and this is considered a successful outcome .... so the goal of 100% of excess weight may not be realistic for all of us) How close are you to being labelled a weight loss success??..... or how close are you to 70%??? From my highest weight in September at surgeons consult I have lost 48% of my excess weight...... almost half...... bearing down on that 70% mark. B

Hi there, I have lost 61% of my excess weight. However, I was really sick for a while and that increased my weight lose over the first 6 months (Sunday is my 6 month anniversary). Not a fun ride! And now my weight loss has stalled. WAH! My doctor's office already told me I was a "success" by their standards, but I want to lose about another 50 pounds. I still feel huge. 358/238/??? Thanks! Hey B, I just got back from my 6mo. checkup and I have lost 60% of my total excess weight. The surgeon says that most people don't reach this mar****il around 8-9 mos. out. I'm really striving to loose a total of 108 lbs. I really want to do it. It's not that far out of reach - I'm now down 65lbs. My surgeon's goal for me is to weigh 150 but I would like to see 135. We'll see. Keep up the great work everyone!! Deb

Well with the excess weight I want to lose (230lbs) I have lost 54% of my excess weight. WOOHOO! hadn't seen it like that. If I lose all of the weight I want, I will be at 85% loss of excess weight. Lise Lap RNY 11/29/04 409/291/180

I have lost 62% of my excess weight. According to the weightloss planner I am just a touch ahead of schedual to meeting my goal at my 1 year aniversary!! I was loosing 15 pounds a month but now it is 10-12 so I am sure it will continue to slow a bit. I need to loose about 2 pounds a week to meet my goal of 135 at 1 year, so I hope my weight loss doesn't slow much more!!! I feel like a new person at 188. I can't even imagine the 135 mark - that's highschool weight!! lol!! Sounds like everyone is doing a great job!!!! Keep up the good work!!!! A

Hi there!! I have lost 65% of my excess weight so far. I still haven't lost anything for the last 6 weeks....but my body fat went down! I am still waiting very impatiently for the scale to dip! I was so determined to be a 100% sucess! Now I think I'd be happy to lose 90-95% of the weight!! We all just have to wait and see!! ~Summer 240/175/140

I think I made this more confusing.... here goes find out what your ideal weight is (according to planner) Highest weight - ideal weight (according to planner) = excess weight Total lbs lost so far divided by excess weight x 100 = % of excess weight lost B
