Difficult in eating Bread?
Hi Sharon,
I dont eat bread because it takes up too much room and it has too many carbohydrates. In addition to bread, I stay away from pasta, rice and potatoes as well for the same reason. Also they very easily convert to sugar and with my RNY I dont do sugar any more and anything that has more than a gram or 2 will make me VERY nauseaus. I try to concentrate on the protein first, veggies next and then there isnt room usually for anything else. I do have some carbs as snack in the form of fruit or Wheat Thins - I will have 4 of them with some whipped cream cheese - but other than that I stay away from it. I dont miss the bread, etc... and I will probably never even bother to try to reintroduce it.
God bless you and keep you,
~Andrea
This is a very common problem. If you must eat bread, choose a cracker or there is some toasted bread products at Krogers in the Imported aisle. It's from England and they are little toasted bread slices that are very good and don't hurt our pouches other than the carbs that we should limit. Sometimes I just have to have a slice of toast with peanut butter on it. It works for me. I've lost 90 pounds since November. Though it is slowing down now. Good luck.

I have tried a very very small nibble and it was ok but nothing more or bigger. I have been told not to eat bread it is full of carbs. No tortillas, pizza crust, bread or such. My friend that is 8 mos out is able to eat thin bread well toasted. Good Luck! I DO MISS MY BREAD!!!! WAHHWWW

Sharon,
I can eat bread although I know that I really shouldn't. I don't abuse it cause of the carbs but sometimes I like to have my tuna on bread. It is VERY common not to be able to eat bread. A friend of mine told me that anything you can hold under the faucet that will expand (ie. bread and pasta) can cause problems. Good luck and don't worry about not being able to eat it...it's not a good food choice anyway.

I can eat bread even though I usually choose not to. The last time I ate it was 2 weeks ago when we went to Subway. I was going to get the atkins wrap and then I just thought "what the heck I'll try some bread" and I ate about 1/2 of a 6 inch turkey sub. (So 3 inches). I didn't feel sick at all, just really full.

I'm allowed bread - BUT - if I can have it or protein... I choose the protein - However, in the am - usually when I'm rushing to leave for work I toast a piece of sourdough (cause it gets really crusty) & put peanut or almond butter on it - so that I get some protein. So long as I eat it slow it goes okay. I've stopped saying yes - when they ask before a meal if they can bring bread... this is a HUGE step for me Especially if the bread is home baked.
Well I am the streange one I guess. I do eat bread and pasta and other carbs because I love them. I had a hard time in the first few months with carbs like pasta and bread. I don't think it's healthy to totally avoid any food group, I try to eat well rounded and get in what my body needs. Some carbs will go down better for you than others, just depends on how far out you are, what size bites you take, etc. I still can't eat a LOT of bread or pasta, but if I crave some, I eat a bite or two. I find as far as bread goes that the crunchier it is the easier it goes down. I think it doesn't expand as much. I have a thing for bagel crisps.......
