Are you eating???
Hi! I'm a little past 5 months post-op, and I'm still have trouble eating. Some days, I eat pretty decent. Other days, I can't eat anything...or throw up if I do. I've gone from 309 to 219, so I'm thrilled...but I'm also hungry! It seems like the only thing I can eat without trouble is salad or shrimp. Any suggestions?
Sorry to hear you are having such a hard time eating...I also was having a hard time keping food down, but I spoke with my doc about it and he asked me a few questions. 1) Are you flushing your pouch before you eat? You should be drinking your fluids 30 min. before you eat to make sure your pouch is clear. 2) Are you cutting up your food small enough and chewing them really, really well? 3) Make sure you don't eat too quickly. I was doing almost all of that wrong and now that I eat more slowly and chew my food more I notice I don't vomit as much. I would pace myself and go back to trying food like applesauce and cottage cheese for a while. I am still trying new foods and discovering what I can and can't eat. I had a REALLY hard time with chicken, for months I would try it all different ways and I would be sick. I left it alone for a couple months and now I can eat it, but VERY slowly and chew it VERY well. Good luck, hope I could help.

Hey Noel,
I still get sick if I eat too quickly. If I'm really hungry and I take big bites of my food, by the 5th bite I've had it. I get that pain and have to get to the bathroom. It's still sometimes a struggle to remember to eat slowly and take small bites. I must admit that the variety of my diet isn't that great but that's more due to lazyness than not being able to handle foods. Tuna is great. I like to make rollups for lunch with swiss cheese and turkey or ham. I can eat 1/2 a peanut butter sandwich (careful with the bread). Just remember to chew! You'll work up to more but maybe going back to mushy stuff for a short time might help.
Good luck!
Debbie
