Labs are worse!

Hey November sibs, Just had another set of labs drawn. Do not have all the results back but what little I do have looks worse than the set before. Looks like I may have to go out on medical leave again..... like I can afford to do that! My red blood cell count continues to drop. My iron level has dropped a bit as well. My potassium is even lower - if you can believe I can be that low and continue to function. I finally got scared! Thank god I knew enough to know it was a major concern and got going on things to correct right away. (the staff in my docs office are scary - do not seem to know when to be concerned). Of course when he actually got to see them, there were prescriptions called to the pharmacy immediately! Is anyone else having problems with iron, red blood cells, or potassium levels? Did anyone else have a distal RNY? B

My iron level was really low, but nothing else. I started iron supplements and am getting B12 shots weekly, however I haven't had repeat labs yet. Good luck hope all gets back on track.....

Thanks Sandy... I hope this all settles out soon as well. My doc seems to think that it will. B

I just realized I haven't had any blood test yet - need to call an schedule an appointment with the doc to see what's needed - noticed that my finger nail beds are a little pale - probably means my iron is a bit low. Keep us posted on what goes on with you - hoping this will pass soon enough

B- I won't have bloodwork done until the 10th of April because my doc doesn't chec****il the 6mo. checkup. I really hope that everything gets straightened out and you are feeling better. I know you said that you were very low energy. Keep an eye on the potassium - that effects the heart. Just do what the doc says and you'll be fine. Thinking good thoughts for you! Deb

B, If you don't like seeing your surgeon, find a PCP that is WLS friendly and see if he's "up to date" on the knowledge of WLS. He can monitor your blood work for you. I didn't have Distal RNY so can't help you there.... maybe post that question on the main board? Or on the distal board? Hopefully you will get it worked out quickly and you won't have to miss work! Thanks for your support guys... don't know what I would do if I didn't have this board to vent and celebrate with! Well, I am now on potassium supplements twice a day .... but off all blood pressure meds. Doubled on the geritol. Will be off work for at least a month. Crazy with worry about the piling up bills. but all things in perspective.... I am alive, coherent (or at least think I am : ) and able to move. b

Hi Everyone, I have had to repeat blood tests due to a liver enzyme that was higher than normal. I had the blood test today, (Friday 3-25), and will get the results next week. My doc said that sometimes WLS patients will have trouble with their liver...Does anyone know or has anyone experienced this problem?? Thanks in advance, Mark
