Does anyone here drink pop?
Hi,
I have not had anything with any carbonation since surgery. For some reason pop is really calling my name. Of course diet, that is what I used to drink before anyways. But I don't know if it will have a negative affect, which I totally don't want to happen. So I was wondering if anyone here has had pop or anything. Crystal lite is just not cutting it
Thanks,
Michelle

I have a sip or two of my husbands every once in a while. It has to be either in ice or have been sitting out for a while so the carbination factor is lowered. I can not imagine drinking one of my own. But after a couple of sips, the craving is satisfied and I don't think of it anymore. I would say I have done this maybe 5 times since surgery.
I'm with Mrs.3M, I've only had a sip or two from my hubby's diet coke. It doesn't taste as good as it did before surgery. I haven't had a can of my own at all. I don't intend to ever. I've been told by my doctor and nutritionist that carbonation isn't good for me after surgery. So I just drink water or crystal lite. Or diet arizona Ice tea.

I tried one (Diet Dr. Pepper) and before that first sip even hit my stomach I knew I had done wrong. Just feeling it bubbling down my throat and thinking God knows how much air was going to be released in my stomach made me think twice. Now, I was pretty dependent on Diet Dr. Pepper before the surgery. So, I even tried it after it had sat out for awhile and wasn't fizzy. You know what? It just ain't what it used to be. I don't miss it. I sometimes miss the convenience of soda but there are other options. I get tired of Crystal Light too but I rotate the flavors and the tea and flavored waters, etc. I have yet to hear of a doc or nutritionist who says even a little bit is ok though. If you need to get it out of your system try it flat but don't start down that path again because the little habits can lead us right back to where we were.
On a different note, I had an after dinner glass of wine and whoo-hoo I was flying! I'm such a cheap date! Can't make that a habit either!

Michelle,
I'm gonna echoe everyone else and say - don't do it! I have had a sip of my husband's diet coke (boy was I an addict before surgery!!) and it wasn't worth it. I'm so affraid that drinking it would stretch out my pouch that I don't dare. Why go through all that just to wreck it with a can of soda! I stick with flavored water and crystal lite. I understand that craving for the fizz but I figure that it's just one of those things I'll learn to live without.
Take care!
Debbie
I was told no soda for the rest of my life. Supposedly the soda can stretch the opening to your stomach which will allow you to eat more. Fortunatly I never cared for soda much anyways so it is not a big deal to me. I know that some people in my support group do drink soda but at our last meeting we had a bariatric surgeon with his nurse there and they said sodas where definitely a no-no.

I guess that I am the only bad girl out here! I do have an occasional regular coke. I am down 82 lbs. from 11/22/04. I love coke, and missed it so much......I would rather have an occasional coke, and give up something else. I eat very little meat, no bread, rice, or pasta. A coke every once in while is my treat to myself. I do think about what it may be doing to my pouch, so I do let the fizz die down some before I drink it.
I too, was so tired of Crystal light and water.
