Hey all, I just need some reassurance. My surgery was on 10/4 and I'm doing pretty well. I've firgured out what makes me sick and what goes down well. I'm exercising 6 days a week. Here's the thing...I've only lost 50lbs. I know that's not bad but do you think it should be going faster I know we shouldn't compare to anyone else but.....The other thing is that even after 50lbs gone, I've only gone down one pants size. Don't get me wrong - no complaints about the loss, just thinking it should be a little faster. BTW, I get about 70grams of protein a day and drink tons of water. Thanks for being there! Debbie

Lets see you started at 235 and you are now 185 and according to the "health experts" for your height your "ideal" weight is 135. You are HALF WAY to your "ideal" weight in just four months! I am a third of the way to mine in four months. You are doing AWESOME! Keep up the good work. They say it takes 12 to 18 months to reach goal. You are halfway there in FOUR!

Hey Joe - Thanks for the feedback. My profile was off slightly - I started at 243 and now weigh 193. Still, what you're saying is pretty accurate. I guess I just need to chill a little! Thanks, Deb

I sure hope you are doing good because I am right there with you. Surgery was the same day as yours and I will find out the official loss on Tuesday at my doctors appointment but I think I have lost about 50 pounds. I think you are doing better at the protein thing and excerise then I am. I get about 50grams a day and excerise 3 days a week. I don't quite understand the pants size though. I started in a 24 and am now in a 18. Are you trying smaller sizes on? Hang in there and keep the faith that it will come off in the end. Teresa

Teresa, I'm in size 18's too. At the time of my surgery I was squeezing into my size 20's. I have one pair of 16's left from years ago and those are the ones that I've tried on. I'm afraid to go to the store and try on clothes because I don't want to get depressed if they don't fit! The 18's that I wear are very baggy in the butt - wahoo!! I'm going to wait another 10lbs and then go and officially try on 16's (if I ever get down another 10 ). Good luck at your appointment! Debbie

Debbie - Don't worry. It will come off. I had surgery 11/29/04 and am only down 41 lbs. I started at 223 so I have to reminde myself that I have less to lose than other people who have experienced like a 60 lbs drop. My friend that had WLS 9 months ago said that loss is rapid in the first month to 2 months and then from there your body stabilizes and you start losing 1-2 pounds a week but not more than 10 a month. If you look at what nutritionists say, this is normal weight loss since you don't really want to lose more than 10 lbs a month. Also, you have to remember that while you may not be losing lbs, you could still be losing inches. I say change your exercise up a bit by doing the ellyptical trainer instead of treadmill or something like that. I just started Oprah's 12 week boot camp which requires working out 8 times within a 6 day period but each workout focuses on something different and each takes it one step further. You can get more info on Oprah.com I also try to get 90 grams of protein in and 80 ounces of liquid per day. Since starting this last Friday I dropped 4 lbs. Good luck. Cari2702

Debbie, Up your protein intake!! You are not getting enough!! Try 90 grams of protein and I bet the lbs will start coming off!! As you know I had surgery the same day as you and I've only lost 10 lbs more than you...that's nothing for you to feel bad about!! This past month I only lost 8 lbs but I have busted my butt in the gym...so I can feel the muscle I am gaining!! Don't get discouraged!!! Add one more good quality protein shake and see what happens!! ((hugs)) Summer

Summer, I'll try one more shake at night (I don't know if I can stand it!! - ugh) and see what happens. I did loose 1 lb this week - a pound down is better than a pound up I guess! Thanks for the input - I'll let you know if it works. Deb

Hi Deb, I can understand the protein drink thing!! I get sick of them too!! Somedays I can get away without having one (if my protein intake is high from real food). I drink Atkins shakes when I get sick of making my own. I just ordered new samples from Valleynutrition! I love chocolate shakes but I'm ready for a change!! You are so right.... 1 lb down is a good thing! Good Luck!! Summer
