I don't know how good I'll look but I don't have much hair now and if I lose enough it won't make much difference. Maybe we can start a bald headed ladies club. Maybe even have our own message board

Melissa Etheridge is bald? I need to keep up with the world! You go girl... but I have a head the size of a football (no lie.. always worn a men's size hat even when I was thinner). I can't imagine what my football sized head would look like BALD! ew? Donna

I, like many of you don't have much hair to begin with. I did get my hair chopped off last week because the length was really showing my loss. After reading a few of the posts on the message board, I asked my boyfriend what he would do if I lost all of my hair? He laughed at me and said.... "At least your hair will eventually grow back!", "Mine never grew back when it fell out!". I guess he has a good point. It's so much more acceptable when a man loses his hair. I see some women that have lost a lot of their hair and I feel so bad for them. They look so beautiful in so many ways and then you see their hair and it's so depressing to think that I may look like them! Does anybody know how long this lasts? I agree that there isn't too much you can do about it when it's happening. My surgeon told me that no matter what I do, I'm going to lose my hair. Frustrating!! Megan B

I've heard it's about 6 to 8 months after it starts to fall out before you see improvement. I can't imagine walking around BALD. And you're right, it's alot more acceptable when it happens to a man, yet I think they FEEL the same way we do! Poor guys! Good luck! Donna

Personally, I think the amount of hair we lose is totally related to how nutritionally sound our bodies were for months BEFORE the surgery. I have always eaten lots of protein and been on prenatal vitamins forever, so I am not experiencing very much loss...yet I mean, several more hairs than before, but nothing atypical from when I shed. I have thinner hair and always seem to lose hair at the beginning of the Fall and Spring, so I am just coming into my season, so to say. LOL I have long hair and thought about chopping it off, but figured the ability to throw it back into a ponytail or a bun will be extremely beneficial in reducing the amount I have to deal with and it will help hide the loss if it becomes substantial. If you up your protein now, it could take a couple months for it to help, but it WILL help when it starts growing back in. A great product I use that helps a lot is a brush made by Goody. It is a brush designed to reduce hair loss. It works really well!! Also, brushing your hair before you get into the shower will help reduce how much clogs your drain. Just an FYI Thankfully, if we all do become bald, we have a place to come and fit in, right? LOL Hopefully, it's a short concern for all of us!! Erica 258/197.5/125

Erica, I was also on protein and vitamins for years prior to surgery... so just goes to show.. you never can tell! And yeah, I'm glad I have a group of people who understand what I'm going through! (((HUGS))) to you all! Donna 255/198/135

Hi Donna, Yes my hair has started to thin out. Let's see if we notice each others hair loss when we see each other next!! My hair had thinned out before because of hypothyroidism and it filled in later so I hope I can grin and bare it (depends on how big the bald spot gets****il it grows back in. The other post ops I've been around seemed to looke fine. Then again I have no idea how much hair people had prior to WLS!! Take Care!!!!!!!! Summer 240/184/140
