LOL! I like your mom's outlook I never thought of it that way! I took my son to a birthday party today and one of the mom's who has seen me since WLS shocked me with her comment today. I was getting ready for the "you look great" compliment which is sooo hard for me to take, but I am learning to say "thank you" and instead she says... "Did you do something different to your hair, it looks really, really different". I told her, "could it be that it is really think because it is falling out?" She looks me dead in the eye and says "That's IT! I almost died. I wasn't sure if I should laugh or cry. I agree that I have more energy and DID have a better self image. It is just that my hair was always my best quality and that was important to me, especially when I was MO and didn't feel that I had any other redeeming qualities! Now it is going to have to be my tush! Thanks for the upbeat post! Roni

Roni, It will grow back and just when you start bracing yourself for the comment, "you look different, I know, you have the best a** I have ever seen!" someone will come along and surprise you with - "Did you do something different with your hair?"!!! Hang in there!! Debbie

I haven't noticed the hair coming out but I know it's thinning cause I can see it at the temples. I wasn't going to color but gave in this weekend. I have the most gray hair at the temples and the combo of thin & gray made me look bald. sheesh I know it will grow back (fingers crossed and throw salt over my shoulder) but does any one know about how long before it does? diane

I was so worried about losing my hair because I don't have a lot to lose on top. The back of my head has thick hair but I've suffered with thin hair and hair loss for several years. Well guess what? I haven't been losing any appreciable amounts of hair for the past 2 years. I even asked my hair stylist if she though a lot of hair was coming out when I go to see her and she said no. I will also add that I'm taking more protein than I ever have in my life and I have been using Nioxin for a couple of years. It's expensive but I'm glad I've been using it. I went to a nutritionist a couple years ago and he recommended Nioxin and said it had helped his wife and himself. So that's my 2 cents. xoxo Alice Alice From Dallas 285/220/170 11/10/04

Roni, My surgeon reassured me that the hair loss would occur 3-6 month after the surgery and would stop around the 6th month. The hair would also grow back. I went to GNC and got Hair, Skin and Nails and upped my protien and water. Hopefully this will shorten the period of hair loss. MaryRose Open RYN 11/15/04 343/275/150
