Am I the only one starting to lose GOBS of hair?????
Ugh. I had surgery on 11/8/04 and my hair was pretty thin to start because of all the Infertility drugs I had to take. I just started noticing hair in my sick (near where I brush and style) and it is getting obnoxious. My husband who wouldn't notice if I died my hair pink at least for about 3 days, asked me if I needed to call the doctor.LOL! I am taking 1000mg of Biotin and have been since I was 6w out, but I don't even want to wash my hair or bru**** anymore. Sigh. I was growing it long, but looks like I will be calling my stylist to butch it and see if that helps. Just wondering if I am alone. I hope for all of your sakes that I am.

Hey Roni,
Hello.I attend a support group where I had surgery. Our last meeting was Feb 14th.The subject of hair loss came up.A nurse that attends(she had surgery 6mos ago) brought an article saying that hair loss occurs at the 3 mo. stage due to surgery, illness, whatever. The article states that it takes 3 mo. for your hair to reflect your health status. The nurse herself was telling us that she had Clumps coming out into her sink. She already had thin hair, but this was really bad.You can now see her scalp through her hair. She reported to us that it's coming back. She Makes Sure to get her Protein,EVERYDAY.
When I read your post,I wanted to reply.I hope this helps. The people in our group are at all stages of their journey. We have people at pre-op,weeks out, months out,and years out(with and w/o plastic surgery).I so appreciate this as we can learn from each other.
Have a great day,
Paula

Hi Roni,
So far I've been OK...but I know it's inevitable!! I know it's common to start losing it between months 3-6!! I also have been taking Biotin since Nov and making sure to get tons of protein in!! My hair is long and I hope I can keep it that way!! Sorry yours is going already but remember IT DOES GROW BACK!!! Nice hearing from you today (email)!!! (you can remind me of that when mine starts falling out )
((hugs))

I am also losing TONS of hair!!! I used to have the thickest hair in the world and now I can see my scalp. I am definately feeling like you when you say that you don't even want to brush or wa**** I have been pulling it into a bun so it doesn't shed everywhere I go. I have been really depressed about it . I had a goal that I didn't fulfill this weekend. I refused to cut or color my hair until I got to my first goal weight. Well, that changed Saturday morning because I HAD to get it cut. I could see right through it because its getting so thin! My nutritionist also said that hair runs on a 3 month cycle and that even if you could correct the defficiency today that it would take a 3 month cycle to fix itself. Does this make sense or am I confusing you? Also, not enough protein is 98.7% of the reason for the hair loss(per my nutritionist). I was getting the recommended amount and she said everyone has different needs and that it was only a guideline to follow. I hope you don't feel so alone anymore. My husband is the same and is noticing it so much now! He stands outside of the shower so I can hand him the HUGE clumps so they don't clog my drain anymore! If he's not there waiting, my 3 year old daughter yells, "Dad you need to get Mummy's hair again!"
good luck,
Jenn
You and I have the same surgery date! The hair loss started for me a few weeks ago. It drives me nuts. I don't know who is worse, my Himalayan or me??? Cutting it probably won't help the problem. I am a cosmetologist and we use a product called Nioxin in our shop. I am gona try it and see if it helps. It is supose to help you keep what you have left. LOL I know, I hate the thoughts of brushing my hair too. We are going to have to make sure we get enough protein. It does grow back and it is only temporary.

I started losing hair at about 2-1/2 months out. I don't brush my hair a lot (housebound, wear it up most of the time) but I know it's silly because when I do give my hair a thorough brushing, the hairbrush is full of hair ... If I brushed it several times a day, I'd still lose the hair but in smaller increments. Bottom line: If I weighed the amount of hair I've lost, it would be the same final amount whether I brush frequently or once a day!
I almost cried this am while I straightened my hair. I did know to expect the loss and that it was temporary, but I was really praying that Biotin would be my miracle cure. My hair is so think to begin with. I am calling my stylist when the salon opens to set up a cut for this week. I was gong to do highlights but I am going to wait a bit and be gentler to my hair. I will cut some of it off, just to get the dead ends and I know shorter gives the illusion of fuller. But, my stylist would have to be David Copperfield to make my hair look thick I am trying to get all of my protein in, I have even started to drink half and Isopure in the evening to get the extra 20 in (my surgeon doesn't like any type of liquid protein shakes/drinks after 6w)
Thanks again for your support and I am thankful but sorry I am not alone!

Hey Roni and everyone,
I knew it was coming but I kept praying that it wouldn't happen to me - lol. I noticed the other day that if I run my fingers through my hair that I end up with a bunch of strands in my hand. No standing in a brisk wind or it might all come out at once. I guess we just need to give each other support and know that it will grow back eventually. Also, my mom said to keep this in mind - skinny and balding is prettier than fat and balding - think of that nice young Seanaid O'Connor girl - lol.
