Hi all Can everyone please tell me how they get all of their water in for the day. I am struggling BIG TIME!! I am lucky to get in 50-60oz a day. I know, I know, just do it... right? I have the water bottle in front of me and with me at all times I just don't drink and it's starting to really bother me because it is such a forced thing with me Susan LAP RNY 11/24/04 374/313/190

Hey Susan I have a really hard time too. I have little goals set, like by 12 noon I must finish 32 ounces. If I get in another 32 by the end of the day that is good. The 32 by 12 is now easier when the rest gets easier I will up it. I figure I am a work in progress so I'm doing the best I can. Keep on keepin on! Tina

It gets to a point where I am forcing so much it almost makes me gag. I'll take less water over gagging myself.

Experiment with the different brands and flavors of bottled waters, maybe if its more enjoyable you might drink more? I found I like the berry flavor propell and its very smooth going down. Maybe buy one of those small kitchen timers that you can set for say 15 minutes at a time while you are watching tv or at the computer etc, and drink a few sips/oz each time it goes off and reset it. It gets better, I get about 70 oz in a day sometimes more depending on my work schedule. I started out bad, was lucky if I got 30 oz a day until I noticed my face getting dried out and my lips always chapped and cracked....signs of dehydration. The organs require so much fluid that they draw it away from your skin. I read somewhere that you should drink half your body weight in fluid...YIPES!! One more reason to get to goal. At my current weight thats umm 135 oz a day...pfft. Michelle

Hi Susan, It is not easy getting in all your fluids everyday and it was a real challenge in the beginning. I got tired of water and crystal lite and found these new drinks that I really like. They are Welch's Low Cal. They are made with splenda and come in 10 oz bottles. There are a variety of flavers my favorite being White Grape Raspberry. You can buy them by the case at BJ's Wholesale Club or by the six pack at Walmart and Food Lion. I really haven't looked anywhere else. I think having a variety of things to drinks seems to help. Good Luck! Teresa

I have the same problem Susan. I've never been a big drinker. Any kind of fluids. I've always drank diet coke or water. But never a lot. Now I try to drink a cup of decaf tea in the am. That counts toward water. At least a 16 oz bottle of water a day if I can. And some crystal light. Sometimes I don't even do that much. It's so hard for me. I feel your frustation!! ~Angel 222/181/120 BMI: 35.3 Lap RNY 11/10/04

Don't forget that low carb/skim milk count towards liquids too plus are a great source of protein and calcium. And remember there are 24 hours in a day. I remind myself of this everyday and realized it made it easier to get all my liquids in for the day. I now drink 1 cup of water right when I wake up, my protein shake with low-carb milk/chocolate milk which is about 1.5 cups, water or decaf tea throughout the day and then 16 ozs about an hour before I go to bed. By the time all is said and done I will have consumed about 72 ozs of liquid.

Everytime I go to the sink to wash hands, wash dishes, take vitamins, etc. I make sure I drink 8 oz of water. I keep a cup at all of the sinks in my house and by the time the day is over, I have drank more than my share!!! But, I have the ability to drink water like I did before just as long as it is at least 1 1/2 hours after my meals. So, it is easier for me than most who still have to sip and drink such small amounts!!!!

I hear you sister. With the no fluids 1hr before and after a meal and having six meal/snacks when do you have the time? That is twelve hours....I am like you I just keep trying. I can drink larger amounts now, so I don't have to sip, sip, sip. It is still difficult.
