Would rather not eat
I posted this on the main board and only got 2 responses so I thought that maybe since we're all at about the same stage you could help me.
Don't want to eat
I'm just wondering if anyone one else is feeling this way. I never want to eat. I'm doing fine and have lost about 50 lb after 2 months but I'm always tired (even when I DO eat). I know I'm in the depression/hibernation phase of this process but I'd rather just be in bed all day. I drink my 45 grams of protein and usually try to get some eggbeaters and cheese in and I drink all my water and take all my vitamins but other than that, it takes everything out of me to be at work all day long. I come home on Fridays and but my PJ's on and never get dressed again until Monday morning. I live alone so I don't have to cook for anyone else. Usually when I DO eat, I get sick to my stomach which passes after about an hour. Any advice? I seriously just go to work and come home. I don't have the energy to exercise which I know I need to do but I'm also a Type I diabetic.
Hi Janel,
My energy level is still low. I would love to be able to take a nap at work. Sometimes I feel like I can't keep my eyes open. I take all my vitamins but sometimes lack on the protein grams I am suppose to get. Still working on finding a protein drink that tastes good. The eating gets easier. My biggest problem is eating too fast. So I now have to watch a clock while I am eating to make sure that I take longer then 5 minutes to eat. Eating fast causes me to get pain and not eat the amount I should. I still go for the mushier/softer type foods. I know quite a few people that have had this surgery and they say this all gets better so I am not worried. Hang in there! - Teresa
I totally understand where you are coming from. I stay home with my kids and some days I just can't even do anything. I just feel soooo tired!! This just started for me this weekend. And I have not had any problems at all with food until Saturday and now everytime I eat, I feel sick to my stomach which passes after about an hour. Strange!!! Maybe it is just a phase we go through and nothing to worry about!! I sure hope so!! I wish I had some advice for you. I have read that exercising does help us get through this hybernation stage, but it's hard to remember that when you can barely lift your head off the couch!!!!!

OH my Gosh, I could have written your post! I have Chronic Fatiuge Syn. which was caused from early set diarreha. But my Dr. told me about 15% of people who have this surg. will have this. And weridly enough I just read an article in my nursing mag. about "major" surg. causing Chronic Fatigue. The good news according to my Dr. and the article is: Usually this is a 3 month problem. After 3 months it does seem to go away. I did get the o.k. to start working out and went to water arerobics on Monday, I really felt like a wet noodle on tuesday, but am pushing myself to keep going. I am not even getting 45 gms of protien in, but trying really hard to get in my water and vitamins. I hope this helps a little and keep your chin up, I know we will both be getting better. Renea
Janel, I'm right there with you, girl. I don't eat except for a few crackers to get my supplements down. I drink 3-4 protein shakes a day with a banana in them. My surgeon says if you're not hungry, don't eat. As long as you're getting your protein and your supplements, you'll be fine. I'm down 42lbs. I'm not exercising and I know I should be, but I just don't have the energy. I'm gonna change that today. I'm so dang cold all the time, I'm gonna walk on my treadmill just to get warm! Hang in there!

Hi Janel,
We are surgery twins (same date). I have lost the same as you. I did have sleepiness and spoke to my doctor about it. He told me to get my body moving. I hate exercise, but I walk up and down the stairs a lot and do some regular walking. I also started doing small stints on my elliptical trainer. It has helped a lot and after you move around you'll start feeling a lot better. Again if you are not getting in 60-70 grams of protein from shakes and food you need to up the grams. The protein will also make you feel better because you are allowing your body to "eat" your muscle mass instead of the fat which is very unhealthy. Good luck

Janel,
You don't have any energy BECAUSE you're not eating! The body is tricky like that! Just like if you don't eat enough calories in a day, you won't lose weight as fast! Your body goes into "starvation" mode because you aren't feeding it! So, if your body thinks your starving yourself, your brain is going to tell the rest of your system to slow down!
You need to eat Janel. Even if it's a tiny bit a couple of times a day. I think it's great that your getting in your protein though. But, be careful.....the protein may be filling you up and your still not getting enough calories.
Hope you feel better soon!

Wow, I thought it was just me. MY surgery date was 11/09/04. I have lost 55 pounds but I am having some problems eating and now I am also
so tired I can hardly carry myself around. I am in bed at 7PM. I am having a hard time going to the gym because I can't seem to get the engery to go. They tell me it happens at this point and it will pass. I sure hope so. It's nice to hear it not just me.
OH YOU MAKE ME WANT MY JAMMIES RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!
I'd love to be at home in bed.... ahhh
Unfortunatly, I have a life, husband three kids under 12 and I work full time. darn it! Not the husband and kids, but I would love to be a stay at home mom again right now! whoo~ hoo~ wouldn't that be grand?
I'm just a home body anyway, and I like my jammies.
I'm feeling a little sleepy right now...
oh well, Saturday is only a day and a half a way...
