Advice/Opinions

Hi Everyone - I wanted to ask for some advice and opinions. Two day is my two month anniversary (down 32 lbs) and over the last several weeks I have been thinking about joining Team in Training for the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society. Basically you join the group and for 4 months you train with them to either walk or run a marathon. One of my life's goals is to participate in a marathon and since I need to work out at least 3 times a week I figured I could pair the marathon together with working out. In exchange for raising money for the organization, I get to train with coaches, other members, nutrition counseling, etc. My question is do any of you think it is too soon? The training lasts for 4 months and they take beginners which is what I would be. Thanks!

I dunno - to me it sounds like it is too soon. I dont know what their rules are but maybe you can start training with them but to me it doesnt sound like 4 months is a long enough time to train for either running or even walking in a marathon. Thats what, 26 miles?? Thats a lot of miles. Although, my husband, who is an avid runner, just told me "oh sure - if she is gonna walk it, she should be able to do it" - but I dunno, sounds like a lot to me, lol. If you do decide to do it keep us posted on your progress and how the marathong goes! If you decide not to do it this time, I say get started for next time - and keep us posted!!! God bless you and keep you. ~Andrea

I say Go For It!!! If you are feeling up to it, you can always try it and if it doesn't work out, just think of what better shape you will be in for working out for that 4 months. And then you could get in on the next one and do it again and who knows, maybe you will love it and be a GREAT marathon runner!! I think this is all about new starts and trying different things to find out what we are all about on the inside as well as outside!!! So Why Not??? Give it a Go!

Thanks for the advice! I think I am going to train with them and at a minimum do the 1/2 marathon - walking. I will keep everyone posted!

Bless your heart. I'd ask my dr. if there were any medical reasons why he'd be concerned, at this point...over walk-training, and then I'd do it! I know lots of heavy people who trained for the Avon three-day thing, and finished...it's supposed to be more of a 'group' thing, than a real atheletic thing (although it was plenty taxing, I'm very sure!). I'd hate to discourage your heart from leading your mind...Karen
