Do you think we should avoid eating a protein bar every day?

Hey everyone! Do you think there's any problem with eating a protein bar everyday? I was complaining to a friend of mine about my slow weight loss (only 41lbs in 13 weeks!) and she suggested that maybe it was the protein bar that I was having every day as a snack. She said that when she was on Atkins they caused her to not lose weight. Do you think there's any truth to this? Thanks, Deb

I hope not. I don't see how it can be. My dr tells me to increase the protein so how can the bar be slowing you down. I don't have any medical experience or am I an expert in any way. But it just doesn't make sense to me. I'd ask my dr and see what he has to say about it. Or maybe a nutritionist.

Hi Deb, I had surgery the same day as you and I think it has only been 12 weeks. Anyways I had lost 38lbs at my 8 week appointment and only a few more pounds since then. I don't think it is a bad weight loss. It is definitely more then I would be able to do on my own without the surgery. I don't think the protein bar will hurt. They say to up your protein to lose the weight. You could try tracking your calories. I use www.fitday.com (it is free) and helps you see how much and where your calories are coming from. I think you are doing great and congratulations on the weight loss Teresa

hiya Debbie - I have been eating a protien bar every day for probably about 3 weeks, although I eat it as breakfast, in lieu of the shake. I had about a week and a half stall in my weight loss in early January but since then I have been losing steadily again, about 1/2 lb a day. So... no I do not think that eating a protien bar every day will hinder your weight loss. I have lost 45 lbs so far, and I have 45 more to go! :D Incidentally, I also use fitday.com and I love it!!! Not only do I track the foods I take in but also vitamins that are in my food, and also the calories I burn in my exercise and my regular daily routine.

Hi Deb What kind of protein bar are you eating? Some of them are very high in sugar and carbs so beware . I use the Slimfast carb options bars, the chocolate brownie ones are tolerable and are very low in sugar and carbs Susan LAP RNY 11/24/04 374/313/190

Hi Deb, I had surgery the same day as you and started at about the same weight. I've noticed my weight loss slwoing down some too, to about 3 lbs per week. My dietician said that because I didn't have as much to lose starting it was going to stay at about this rate but that I could kick it up with exercise Walking bores the tears out of me so I'm trying to find something I like! I'm so glad I found this board and you ladies who had it at the same time! I was feeling frustrated because I wasn't dropping a dress size every two weeks like I'd read others doing that I was doing something wrong. Patience and protein, that's all I need! I look forward to hanging with you ladies some more! carey
