My starting weight was 288, I had surg. on 11-11-2004 and I've lost 31 pounds, I'm at 257lbs. I seems as though I should have lost more weight than this, I've been doing water aerobics twice a week and wallking.

Hi Denise, First of all I want congratulate you on your loss so far. Now I want to tell you that everyone is different and we all lose differently. But just in case, My dr told me to increase my protein. So I went from 1 protein shake a day to 2 and lost the very next day. I've lost 41 lbs so far. Just a thought. Everyone says to make sure you have your water in everyday. But I must admit i'm having a hard time with that. But just a few things to consider. Good luck! ~Angel 222/181/120 BMI: 35.3 Lap RNY 11/10/04

Hi Denise!! You have done very good!! I know I sometimes wonder if I am losing slower than most, but then again, at least I am losing. I have noticed that when I get more protein and water, I too lose weight more quickly! I am trying very hard to get more protein in, and its hard to get it all in its seems for me. I have added drinks containing protein at least once per day. That seems to be helping me get more. My other problem is, I don't seem to take enough time for ME. I haven't been exercising as much as I should be, and I know I need to take that time for me and do it!! Good luck to you!!! Teresa

Dee, like most have said, protein. And just a hint, nutritionists have found that milk/calcium will help take the pounds off, so drink milk! It goes toward your water/fluid intake! You are doing great! Vicki in Alabama

Watch the carbs in milk...carb countdown yoghurt does just as good and makes a nice little snack. Jo

I've wondered the same thing about myself, though my doctor & his staff are very pleased with my progress. My surgery was on 11/17/04. I weigh once a month at my surgeon's office. As of last week, I am down 44 pounds. I am thrilled with that. But, my friend had her 1 month check-up on the day that I had my 2 month weigh-in, and she is down 42 pounds! Historically, I've been a slow loser ~ on any "diet". So, I know that I probably will not lose as fast as many others. As long as I'm losing, I'll be happy. Hugs to you!

Hi Denise! And hi to all on this board! I'm a newbie on this board but have been around awhile now! I had surgery Nov. 2nd and have lost 29 pounds. My doc said my loss will be slower because I have less to lose. I weighed in at the hospital at 207.5 and am down to 179. Also remember that it is the PERCENT of body fat you are losing. That's the way my doc calculates it and of course it is different for everyone. There is a formula for it but I'm not sure what it is. Someone else on the board will know I bet. Sounds like your doing terrific! Sincerely, Julie

Hi Denise, I had the lap band surgery done on 11/23/04. I am down 41 lbs now. This includes the pre-op diet. On the diet that I am on I can have 6 small meals a day. I usually have 2 protein shakes, 1 protein bar and 3 small meals. I still cannot drink a lot of water but I try get in at least 48 ozs. My weight loss has been slow but steady. Every one loses at a different pace. Your pace may just be slow, but I think you have done a great job so far. I know before the surgery, I would bounce back and forth between 2 or 3 lbs. So, any steady weight loss is good. Just keep doing what you are doing and you may a big drop all at once. I have never liked the low carb thing so I do not restrict it in my diet. I have always felt that it would back fire on you in the end. Just do what works for you. Good Luck Georgia Simms

Denise, I'm a slow loser too! It causes me some worry, because I've failed at dieting, and when others are getting such fast results I slip into thinking "oh no, i'm failing again". What I LOVE though, is that I'm honestly almost never hungry. THAT has surely never happened on a "diet" before... so I know that this tool is working! I started at 279 this last year, and am now 216... but that high number includes my weight loss prior to surgery. Hey, I say it counts!!! Keep in touch, lynnie
