PMS *#@!#$#!! Trying to hang in there...

I hate this time of month - the week before the period. I am a scale addict - yes I know, I need to get rid of it, but I just can't - and usually it doesn't bother me to not see it move every time I get on.... but, even tho this happened last month, and will happen next month, I HATE HATE HATE seeing the numbers on my scale go up as it does right before my period. I also hate that while I know the whys and whatfors of the extra two pounds that piled on overnight, I still catch myself looking for something I did wrong. Should I have had those cashews? No, but is 1/2 ounce of cashew going to make me gain 2lbs? Of course not! But still... all of the logic in the world doesn't change PMS does it? The emotional AND physical aspects of PMS - and when we start to worry and obsess and beat ourselves up over things that are not even real - it helps and it doesn't to know it is just PMS, it is temporary and it will go away.

(((Daniele))) Stay away from the evil scale during your time of the month!! Yes, it can be very discouraging and not god for our self esteem. It's so silly to think we are doing something wrong if we are eating right, getting in our protein, water and exercise. Susan LAP RNY 11/24/04 374/325/190

Hi Susan, Thanks for the reply. I know this will pass and it is just part of being a woman. I also remember that once upon a time I was a thin girl (I lost all of my weight once) and that the PMS problems nearly went away completely just having lost weight... here is hoping that holds true again. I do appreciate the support on this board. It's nice to have that resource of women who know just what each other are going through.

Danielle, Oh, how I sympathize! I know that every month before surgery, I would crave and crave food before my period, hormonoly ravenous, and now even though I eat as healthy as I can, I still find myself craving more food than I can possibly eat before my period. Ugh! I realize now how much bigger my eyes are than my stomach. I still need to work on that brain-body connection. But, PMS is so hard. I thought maybe once surgery was done and my body was detoxed from sugars, fats and junks, that it would ease the PMS thing-WRONG! I guess we have no choice as women to just suck it up, hang in there and stay away from the scale right before and during this difficult time. No wonder the used to call it "the curse"! Laura

Hi Laura, Thanks for your reply! I can certainly relate to the hormonal hunger and eyes bigger than the stomach thing - especially this time of the month. I'm hoping that losing the weight will really help, and probably getting a good exercise routine will help.... but have you noticed that the last thing you want to do during pms is put on work out clothes and go to the gym???? ~laugh~ Ah well this too shall pass. Thanks for your support! Danielle

Talk to your OB-GYN, there is relief available for your symptoms, you might feel 100% better and your family will thank you!

I'm not much for using medications where I can avoid it, but who knows maybe there are some behavioural/dietary things my OB-GYN can recommend to get through this time.... Thanks SP, for your reply! Danielle
