Latlely I have been having problems with food just stagnating in my pouch. I would eat something at 12 lets say.... feel full..... stay full till about 7 when i would finally get frustrated, drink something, and then of course throw up. One night I ate just before bed, got up in the morning and it was still there. What a miserable feeling - like being overfull for hours! Almost impossible to get alll your fluids in that way. Sometimes after eating, I would feel food rise in my throat and go back again. I was weak, miserable most of the day and very down. I was losing weight, although slowly, and I Thought this was just one of the things with WLS that I just had to put up with. Finally went to my doc. Guess what... he put me on a medication called Reglan, to help the stomach empty.... like night and day.... wow! I can actually drink something now about 45 mins after eating. I am not afraid to eat now.... this is wonderul. Moral of the story is: Be honest about what is happening.... tell your doc.... and get help. B

Hey "B", As a fellow Nov sib and one that has gotten ill after eating, I feel for what you were going through! I am SO very happy you spoke to your doc and got some help and relief. I know weight loss is like #1 on everyones mind about the surgery, but what about health? For me, I want to be as healthy as I can, I didn't "just" have surgery to lose weight, but to get healthy, live longer, have more energy, feel better, permanently remove the foods that were, so to speak, killing me and giving me the morbid obesity related diseases. My doc told me if I didn't do the surgery I would die very young and I was on the best meds he had for high blood pressure( 3 different ones to be exact) insulin resistance, thyroid issues, etc and they were just getting me by. He said, I don't know what meds I can give you when these quit working. So for me that now means feeding my body with good foods and lots of protein supplements and lots of water and exercise. I do whatever I can to avoid the dreaded other possible side effects of malabsorption vit/mineral defecencies, to avoid hair loss, dry skin, cracking nails, osteoporosis-all the things that go along with this surgery. Weight loss is like the "frosting on the cake"-lol! I am so truly happy you now can eat and can be healthy! Best of luck with everything! Praying every day that passes brings more positive things to all of our lives! Laura

Thanks for the reminder of the "real" goal of this surgery. It is so easy to get consumed with how many grms of protein or carbs or lbs lost.... alll numbers. The real benefits are the "intangibles".... the ability to look forward to a new and different life. Thanks again for responding. b
