Has anyone else had really strong mood swings. I notice that when I have high energy I am more emotionally stable, but when I have no energy I am very down. I first thought it was the hybernation syndrom that I have read about on other forums, but now I wonder. I had the surgery Nov 23 and as of last thursday the 6th I was down 59lbs. Had a great high energy weekend, did lots of excercise then come Monday back to work got sick at lunch and at dinner then was totally down Tuesday. I am bouncing back finally today, but I hate the lows. Any suggestions on how to beat that?

I get the highs and lows too. It's great when I'm high because I am sooo high, but when I get down it is like I can't even get off the couch! The only thing that seems to help me when I am down is to walk. That seems to bring the energy level back up. But, in the midst of one of those lows it is very hard to make myself get up and exercise, but I know I have too!! I wish I had other suggestions for you, but I really don't!! I'm just trying to get through these changes too!!!! Good luck and GREAT job on the weight loss!!! You are doing AWESOME!!!! Amanda

Joe, I feel for you. Did you know that exercise triggers seratonin and other neurotransmitters to be produced? Seratonin is the neurotransmitter responsible for mood. The more seratonin, the better your mood. (It's not quite that simple, but you get the gist.) I would suggest that when you are feeling down or have low energy, force yourself to do a little exercise -- even if it is just a 10 minute walk. Exercise can be a great mood enhancer. I have hockey for a long time and the 5 weeks that I couldn't play hockey after surgery made me so depressed. Getting back out there (which by the way is SOOO much more fun now that I can actually participate in the game again, instead of just standing there on the ice because my weight was causing so many problems) raised my energy levels and my mood tremendously. Hope this helps.
