I've been cooking just about what I did before the surgery but just not eating the carbs and eating much smaller portions. I make spaghetti for my family and just eat the meat sauce, plus a little cottage cheese YUM!, also I like to add capers, lemon juice, fresh garlic, sun dried tomatoes, balsalmic vinigar, etc. to my chicken and shrimp when I cook it - great flavor bursts!!! I just think about my favorite things I had before RNY and then adjust the cooking a bit to make it lower fat and lower carb!! We have to have things we like or we will get too bored just eating a plain old chicken breast or canned tuna!! They also have a lot of low carb cook books out there - just pick one up and you can get a lot of great ideas!!! Good luck!!

Well, I have been pretty much eating lots of different things, including beef, without any problems. One thing I havent tried yet is salad but I am looking forward to adding that back soon. Today, after reading about Trisuits here on this board, I tried 2 Garden Herb triscuits with some whipped cream cheese - what a delicious treat. I used to love bagels with whipped cream cheese but obviously the bagel is out so I was glad to find a new way to get my cream cheese fix (besides a spoon! LOL). Tonight for dinner I am making chicken fajitas but I will just have mine in a plate instead of in the tortilla wrap. I love to dollop on the sour cream! I am quite excited about it. One thing I am so happy about is the variety of food that I can already eat. The one thing that still completely surprises me is how little I eat and am full and that once I am full I dont have any desire for more - that still boggles my mind. I had never come to grips with stopping when you are no longer hungry before and could never understand anyone that could! LOL I am that person now!! What I suggest is to add things in slowly - dont have 3 brand new meals in one day - try something a little different each day though. God bless you and keep you, Andrea

Here's a typical meal's day for me: Turkey Bacon in the AM- 4 thin slices = 8 grams of protein (easy to take my 'food' pills with) Lunch: usually 1 of the following Meat items; Chicken breast marinated in sauce (frozen via Trader Joes), Flame-Grilled Chick'n Gardenburger, rotiserreed chicken (about 1.5 -2 oz) or soup. Snack (if my protein is low- like if I have the soup): Slice of whole wheat toasted bread (5 grams of protein for one slice) topped with 2 tablespoons of Peanut butter (8 grams). Dinner: Varies on what I make / is made for the family meal. It is typically a low carb- high protein meal; chili (home-made) topped with cheese, fish or other seafood, etc. I just don't eat the carb side dish (if supplied by family) and eat the protein item first then have some veggies. Veggies I am allowed are spinich (finely chopped up or fresh baby), asparagus tips, brocolli flowers (not the stems), bell peppers (roasted so I can peel off the skin) and really cooked celery / carrots. I try to avoid the starchy veggies like peas, potatos, certain beans, etc. I am not allowed anything 'stringy' like green beans, etc. I really 'chew' my food items VERY WELL. I got a carrot stuck and I don't ever want to have that happen again! Here's a 'fast food' item I like! Boston Market's 1/2 Rotisserrie chicken individual meal with stuffing and creamed spinich (or veggie side dish). I place the following on a separate plate (to keep my items fresh for leftovers). I cut up the meat to about 2 oz then add a spoonful of each side dish. I can eat this pretty well and it usually lasts me 3 meals (or more). If you get a side of gravy you can use this to moisten up the meat (if needed). After the third meal the remaining food goes to my brother (I get sick off of leftovers past two days). If you can eat eggs, cheese, etc. you can try: Manicotti filling topped with marinara sauce then mozzarella cheese- make a casserole type dish; my family loved it and very high protein! Egg Fritatta (like quiche without the crust: add meat, cheese and veggies)

Hi there, I've just discovered this board and I'm so happy. The other night I had a real treat. I wen to the fancy/schmancy Whole Foods and they had their fresh out of shell crabmeat on sale. Because its just me I got 1/4 pound. Yes, it was still $5.00 but far cheaper than eating out. I added a little low fat mayo, some dijon mustard and a little dried dill and made a crab salad. YUM YUM YUM...What a treat!! And the crab went down so well and agreed with me perfectly. Hello to all my November sisters/brothers, Jo

Great suggestions from everyone....... I made a wonderful meatloaf (substitute reg bread w/low carb bread) and you can use turkey meat if you can't tolerate ground beef. Fajita's are awesome. Don't want to cook. Go to Jack in the Box get the chicken fajita pita and eat the insides only no pita! Gordon's has a great frozen grilled fish fillet butter n' herbs...a whopping 17 g of protein. How about marinating chicken and having Kebabs! Also go to Bariatric Eating.com check out the recipes. I bought her (Susan Maria Leach) book it has great recipes if you like to cook. Happy Eating!!
