What is everyones food tolerance now??
Hi everyone
I am a couple days over 6 weeks post-op and I have been tolerating foods pretty well from day 1. Bit there are certain foods I just can't eat "comfortably" like chicken, mushrooms and pork (to name a few). I chew it very well but these foods sit like a brick in what feels like my chest and throat and then I burp continuously. The other day I had 2 bites of soft broccoli (the flower part) and it sat in my throat for like 4 hrs!! Is anyone else having or have had this problem? What is everyone eating and tolerating well??
Thanks,
Susan

I have been able to tolerate allmost everything I have tried. Salmon and dry chicken seems to get stuck, but other than that I do ok. I tried steak for the first time this weekend. I cut it up very small and chewed well. I was shocked that it did not cause me any discomfort. I ate about 3 ounces of the meat. I ate pork chops yeaterday and same thing, no problems.
I have had a problem with doughy things...bagels, soft pretzels, etc. I will stay away from them completely. They seem to get stuck and make me feel like I am having a heart attack. Also I tried no sugar added hot chocolate...it make me very ill. Everything else, including meat seems to sit just fine.

So far beef is the thing i can't tolerate very well. i tend to always end up but other then that things are ok. my Dr doesn't let me have any breads or pretzel type things but I can that I would probably have a hard time with that! I just got the ok to have steamed veggies. So I'm going to have to see how that goes!
The only time I have had a problem with food sticking in my throat is if I eat it too fast, other wise I have been able to tolerate pretty much everything. I haven't even thrown up once!! I can't believe it - I don't know if that is good or bad!! I think the trick is to make sure the food is very tender and not dried out and also very small bites. I hope this helps!! Amanda

I am almost 9 weeks post op and I can't seem to tolerate chicken. I've tried it all different kinds of ways but it just doesn't seem to sit well with me. I can eat beef no problem. I just take small bites and chew it well.
I find that if I eat too fast or take too big of a bite then I have problem and I vomit.

I cant tolerate any pork and some beef, any lunchmeat. Fish I dont have a problem with, chicken if it is moist, ground beef or other ground meats are fine. Havent had any problems with milk as long as it is fat free. Tried the 2% and that was BAD...uggg. Vinager makes me sick. Guess it is different for everyone.
So far the biggest problem has been chicken - was able to have a couple of baked "nuggets" about 4 weeks in - but since then - no go... & dang does it hurt! I think the biggest problem for me is if I forget to eat regularly & then I go home hungry - I don't chew as well & that's when I have problems - still haven't tried tuna yet - for some reason I have a fear that it will be like the chicken & won't go down - going to have to try it soon though - not taking enough protein in I don't think.
Oh I had some tofu last week at a chinese restaurant & that was like dream food - slipped right in - good protein source - only wish I knew how to cook it at home then maybe I could have that occassionally -
Having real food now - the biggest problem is not knowing what will go down & if I have a bad experience - it makes me afraid to eat again - which can't be good.
My surgery was Nov.18.
I can pretty much eat anything. I don't even dump from sugars which is probably not a good thing.
The only things that made me sick so far were spinach and flounder. These things made me so nautious I threw up within one half hour. Oily potato pancakes( one byte) also made me sick. When I get sick it only takes a couple of bites before I know it's not going to be ok.
