Does anyone wear an Medic alert braclet with information on weight loss surgery? No NG Tube...etc What does it say? Where did you get it? My husband thinks its really important for me to have, my doctor says its not so important. Colleen PS. Stefanie K - are you attending any support groups in "our" area?

I do wear one, and it is VERY NICE. I bought it at a website called www.laurenshope.com . It looks like a beaded bracelet, but still has the medic alert tag on it. It was a little pricey ($85), but worth it for the nice appearance. The reason I got mine is to avoid someone screwing up my surgery (I met a lady in the hospital who had the surgery done over 20 years ago, and by lifting it messed the stomach up [ruptured the staple line or something]...her insurance wouldn't pay to fix it until she gained all her weight back...it took her 5 years to gain the weight back, and she felt sick all the time...!) Mine has 4 lines; it says "No NG w/o scope" "Gastric Bypass" "My full name" "my date of birth" I figured the last 2 lines would be helpful in the event I was in a car accident or something so they could look up my records fairly quickly. Hope this helps! Lori

Hi Lori Thanks for the website - she has some nice pieces and very untraditional looking too. So Stylish!. She has a sale going on right now for anyone else who might be thinking of it. I think I will copy your engraving - its very sensible. Colleen

Glad to help! I like mine, and the neat part is that the "alert tag" part unclasps from either side, so that you can just order the beaded part to change the look without paying for the additional engraving. I will certainly check out the sale, I need to add variety. This one is holding up real well; I do take it off for showering though. Best wishes! Lori

I got my tag from a childrens ID bracelet site - don;t remember the name - but a search should find it easily - cost me 5.45 - asked them NOT to attache the bracelet - then I made several of my own beaded bracelets to go with it - so now I have a bracelet for every outfit & they cost me a total of about 12 each. Not to difficult to make either - if you have a craft shop nearby -

Pamela, That is a great idea to make your own. It appears that it could be done quite easily. I am going to have to look into that. Heck we could start our own "fancy medic alert bracelet company." Ciao! Lori

I've heard if they're too fancy the tag might not get noticed. I plan on getting a plain jane one.

Anytime someone comes into a hosp or EMS unresponsiev it is the protocol to look for the medic alert around the neck and wrist. If they are looking for it, it will be seen. The medic tag is is almost 1.75" long...very noticable. Hope this helps. Lori
