I'll take strictures & ulcers for $200, Alex
Hello fellow Nov. surgery-havers (lol).
I posted a couple of weeks ago about spitting up blood, so I thought I'd give an update.
As my surgeon suspected, I have an ulcer and a stricture. This was confirmed today (Tuesday) with an endoscopy.
The ulcer is medium in size, the stricture small, the gastro doc said. He can't widen the stricture for about a month, until after the ulcer is healed. I'm currently taking prevacid 2x a day, and am waiting to see my surgeon to see if he'll put me on something else for the ulcer. I'll be seeing him this week, and will also HOPEFULLY get clearance to go back to work.
As far as endoscopy goes, it was no big deal. Not painful or anything. So if you're nervous, don't be. They give you a mild sedative to knock you out. They also spray some stuff in your throat to numb it. It wasn't that bad, I've tasted much worse.
Because of the stricture, the gastro doc wants me to remain on soft foods until he can fix it. That's fine. I don't have too much desire to eat meats or chix anyway.
Thanks for listening,
GOod luck and Happy New Year,
Heather

Good luck Heather on your up coming procedures. I'm on Prevacid too for 14 days and I hate it. It causes a nasty tasting return in my throat and through my nose (seems like I'm smelling fumes) but if this helps me from getting an ulcer so be it. I did not have any problems either except eating shrimp one day, not good. I can eat it now. The only problem I can say I truly have is feeling nauseas after eating but it does pass. I prefer soft food over food I have to do a lot of chewing on. Hope you pull through with the ulcer.
