I really hate protein shakes, to me they all have such a chalky taste in them. Does anyone here eat protein bars? I had a really hard time trying to find one that didn't have too much sugar in them. Because my doctor doesn't want me to eat anything with more that 2 grams of added sugar. Well I found one at Wal-Mart and it doesn't taste too well. But its better than the shake. But do protein bars cause constipation? This is something I have really been battling and I thought I had control on it till this weekend when I started eating a one bar a day. Thank you so much for you help. Michelle

Hey Michelle I feel the same way you do. But I found that the Slimfast Carb Options Meal Shakes are very good. I get the chcolate and strawberry. They are like $4.75 for a 4 pack at Walmart and they only have 2g of sugar and a whopping 20g of protein. My doctor prefers we try to get a majority of our protein from food choices so I also eat alot of fish and stuff high in protein. Susan

Hi Michelle, Sorry to hear your having problems. As far a protein shakes the best ones I have found are Worlwide Pure Protein. I get them at Trader Joes, Gnc or the Vitamin Shoppe. no chalkyness at all and not too sweet, Plus they have 35 grams per 11oz can. As far as the constipation, someone on this site told me about Smooth Moves herbal tea which I found at Stop and Shop. It has a great orangy spice taste and does a great job keeping me regular. Good luck, Tee

Michelle, You might want to try vitalady.com website. They sell many different kinds and i believe you can even buy a box of assorted ones so you can sample (I think it was about 10 or so... and none the same). Also try bariatriceating.com (Susan Maria's site)... I think they also are a good source. I find the protein shakes need ice and flavorings to make them good... in other words... like cherries, chocolate, vanilla extract ... or bannana, nutmeg.... coconut extract, pineapple, .... makes it a whole better deal if you can mimmick some of your favorite tastes like pina colada etc. In terms of the bars.... they took me way too long to get in... and I did find I needed to get more water in when I ate them ... perhaps because it took me hours to get one down. Good luck B

For the protein shakes, you defintely have to mix it up with other stuff to make it taste better. I use ISOPURE Creamy Vanilla. Instead of using 2 scoops with 12 ozs of water, I only use 1 scoop with 8 ozs of 1% milk which adds more protein and throw a banana and cinnamon in with it. It ups the protein and calcium and yields 16 oz of fluid which can be counted toward fluid intake according to my nutrionist. I try to do this twice a day but sometimes only find time for once a day. Because I break it up like this, it makes the shake yummy and very tolerable.
