Hey Tina, Happy New Year!!! I too have been experiencing some depression over not losing. I had surgery on 11/18 and have only lost 28 pounds. But I have lost 4.5 inches off my waist and 4 off my hips. And I can really tell he difference. Plus I have not been getting in enough calories and protein. So, I have decided to get all those necessary requirements in. I think then I will see the weight come off. Just hang in there, it will get better. Cathy

Hi Tina, PLEASE don't compare yourself to others regarding how much 'weight' you've lost. You cannot compare yourself to another because each person is different and the more you weigh the more you seem to lose quicker. I started at 240 (BMI 43) and since my last doctor visit I am now 215 (BMI 38), so what's that.. 25 pounds? Who cares! As long as you are doing what the doctor tells you to remain healthy during this recovery period and doing the exercise and drinking water and getting in your protein- your body will lose the weight at the HEALTHY pace for YOU. Don't worry! Here's a great URL someone posted to give you an idea of what weight you should be at per month... it helps me make sure I'm still maintaining my doctor's goals (since I have difficulty getting in my protein, water AND exercise). My goal is to have my pre-existing health conditions be at least manageable and to be off of medications. http://www.obesityhelp.com/morbidobesity/postopplanner.phtml Good luck to you and please don't be depressed! It's the new year! And give yourself a little break - you deserve it! Jennifer

I had my surgery on November 1,2004 and I had it in my mind I should lose more each month and I do everything just like the doctor ordered. Each person loses at a different rate. don't get discouraged it will come off. I have lost many inches all over my body even if the weight isn't going fast. It will happen be patient and drink your water, take your protein and exercise that's all you can do. Happy New Year.Doris

Couple of things to keep in mind: The Blues are normal. You have so many metabolic changes happening that you are likely to get a little down - this too shall pass Did you ever imagined you would lose 30 lbs in a month? That is like a miracle! Have you ever noticed that people who have a lot more weight to lose lose it faster than people like you and I who would be considered "light weights" on this board? I bet people said thing to you before surgery like "You don't need that, you're not heavy enough" (rolling my eyes at how many times I heard this) You will have days when you lose nothing and days where you lose 2-5 lbs overnight. This is normal to. Especially in the 3-5 week range, things really slow down as your body starts to wonder if it will ever get food again. Fun things to keep in mind when you do hit those plateus.... change anything you are doing with exercise and diet: if you are walking, start riding a bike (stationary is fine) Don't put more energy into it, that isn't necessary, just change your routine for a few weeks. You should change every 3-4 weeks anyway, to avoid plateu. Eat more! If you can't, try some different foods or adding a protien shake. I like the carb monitor yogurt smoothies - this will add protien and calories without making you want to puke at the thought. Drink water: I notice that if I drink enough water during the day, I don't retain as much in the morning so I show a better weight loss) So - while I can't tell you not to be deperessed, know that it is normal to be a little blue, and it is normal to wonder if something is wrong (especially when you compare to others) and it will pass. I just got over the blues myself - it was no fun, and I wanted to be losing faster than I am, and my scale even went the other way once (just my period and water gain) Hope this helped a little. Hang in there, it does get better!

Hi Tina, I also had surgery on the 29th of November and have lost a total of 30 pounds. In January of 2004 I spent $250 for a weight loss program and only lost 10 pounds in 8 weeks so I am very excited. It's a great idea to check the chart to guage your weight loss. According to that track and what my doctor has advised me I am right on track. According to my nutritionist you need to make sure you get plenty of water and the correct amount of supplements to keep your weight loss on track. Good Luck.
