Weight lifting and situps???
I feel really good and want to start weight lifting and doing situps, but I'm not sure when to start. My dr. just said no heavy lifting until 6 months, but I'm not talking heavy lifting, I'm just talking light arm weights and situps with the palates (sp?) ball. Any ideas, and/or your Dr's advice would be greatly appreciated!!!! Thanks!! Amanda
My Dr. said we'd talk after my next appointment wich is next tuesday. I know he said absoluetly no weights until we talk. I know it takes at least 6 weeks for the stomach to heal completely and you don't want to risk undoing anything. So I don't have a good answer now but I can let you know this time next week!
From my dr, nothing over 10 pounds for the first 2 weeks. I have been keeping it moderate. I bought some 5lb weights (wouldn't ya know the first thing DH points out is that I lost a little up top and needed to tone that up) so at any rate (aside from me feeling bad over that) I've been using those (not as much as I should but I will get better) and when I get to the YMCA, I use the machines for the situps, abdomen et****ep in under 50lbs - for the legs, I upped the weight because I have a far amount of muscle and flab there The first few weeks, I kept the upper and abdomen weights around 30lbs.
My doc has suggested no weight lifting etc at this early stage... I think for the first three months. He says that it is during this time that the body is basically breaking down to shed weight. If you are weight lifting it is possible to actually cause damage by breaking down muscle tissue.... he suggests that walking or any cardio excercise is the only exercise we should be doing... nothing meant to build muscle. Just repeating what we were told.

My doctor said I can join Curves and I'm 8 weeks out. I started back on my pilates machine at 6 weeks. My doc said start building muscle now because our bodies will burn the muscle just like fat if the muscles aren't being used. I could actually feel that lose of muscle in my legs & butt. Pilates is helping that. I'm joining the gym tomorrow morning. I want to lift weights... put on some muscle to help...increase metabolism...burn fat... lose more weight!!!
Happy New Years!!!!!!
