Ketosis / Ketoacidosis
Hi, folks - have any of you noticed that you are experiencing ketosis or ketoacidosis? I think it's from the high protein/low carb post-op eating plan, lots of protein shakes and tuna, etc. I have noticed that my breath smells kind of sweet and that my skin smells the same way prior to my morning shower. It's not unpleasant, just different. I am wondering if ketosis is hard on my kidneys and liver. Or maybe it's from all of my melting fat - ha ha! If anyone wants to weigh in on this subject, feel free (no pun intended!) Thanks - Martha Bell
Martha-
Yes I have noticed it! I have taken to using the listerine strips, especially after I eat something. It can be hard on your kidneys and liver which is why they say to stay hydrated. As for your liver the reason behind no alcohol for first 6 months to a year is that your liver works to metabolize the weight loss. Alcohol would put added strain and the chance of damaging the liver. I just brush my teeth, use listerine, and use lotions and sprays for the body.
