Stitches coming through?!

I had an open rny on 11/17 and have now started to get stitches coming through my incission. The incission itself looks excellent and is almost completely healed. These stitches have started to work their way to the surface and I'm not quite sure what to do with them. At first, I didn't realize what they were and tried to pull one and boy did that hurt. I suppose I'll have to go see my PCP but I wondered if anyone else had this happening and what you all have done about it?!! Any info would be appreciated!! Thanks! Amanda

Just means your body will not absorb them. That is common. As long as teh incision is healed, you are good.

Hi Amanda, I had Lap RNY and my insisions look good, but I was having stitches come out on one of them. My doc's nurse told me to pull them out if they would come out easily and without pain or if not, to trim them and put a bandaid over them. I had to trim them. She said they will either finish getting disolved or finish making their way out of my body. Hope this helps! Jennifer

One of mine came through - I couldn't pull it - just trimmed it back - no worries.

i had one come through and called my dr. and she told me not to worry about it, when i went to her for my follow up she snipped it for me. I wouldn't try to pull it again if it hurt the first time. If it's really bothering you call your doc. Good Luck Tina

Well, I read this morning and I am glad that I did. I took a shower tonight and I scrubbed my stomach because it has been itching and when I got out I looked down and a piece of sting/dental floss looking thing was sticking out of one of my incisions (I had lap rny 11/23/04). I still called my surgoen's office and they said to just snip it and that my body was just rejecting the stich. The nurse was more worried about the itching and I told her it was just like cuts healing and nothing bad and she was fine with that. I was glad that I didn't have to drive the 1.5 hour away to my doctor's hospital. Hope y'all have a happy holiday!

I had lap RNY on 11/2/04 and one of the incisions looked more open then the others and the stitches were coming through. I went to the doctors and they told me that the stitch had popped open from straining to much. I guess I was moving too much and it didn't take. But anyway....they snipped it and sent me on my way telling me not to worry about it! Megan B
