I have some questions...

My first question is about protein. I just read that the most protein our bodies can absorb in one sitting is 30 grams, so if we try and consume anything over that amount, its just a waste. Also, we are supposed to wait at least 2 to 3 hours between each attempt to take in protien. Again, if we don't we are just wasting time and money. Has anyone else heard this or is it just a myth? Question two is, why do we have to wait for 30 minutes before and after we eat to drink anything? I just kinda assumed it was because it would make me . I'm kinda paranoid though. I think everything is gonna make me do that! LOL!! But for real, is that why or is there another reason? And lastly, can anybody recommend a protein bar that doesn't taste like dirt??? Those Atkins joints are KILLIN me! Thanks, Nae P.S. If this post appears 35 times, its because I kept submitting it, but it wouldn't show!

it seems every doc is different with the drinking thing. My doc says I can drink up until I eat but must not drink for an hour after I eat. The reason not to drink after you eat was explained to me using the funnel analogy: Imagine a funnel with dirt in it. It takes some time for the dirt to make its way out of the little hole, but if you add water to the dirt in the funnel, it will empty out sooner. My doc advises that the longer the food stays in your pouch, the longer it will be that you are not hungry and therefore, you will eat less. Some websites recommend not to drink 30 minutes before or after. The reasoning I have read is that the 30 minutes before is to prevent filling your pouch with fluid which will cause you to eat less and therefore not get the needed nutrients and the 30 minutes after for the reason I stated above. It seems to me that I am less nautious if I don't drink immediately before, but it also has occurred to me that the majority of our nutrition for the first few weeks (depending on your doc) will probably come from supplements (protien and vitamins) rather than from food. As for protien bars.... I am not allowed to have those yet, still on mushy food and protien shakes, but I mentioned below a drink I like called Perfectly Protien from Bolthouse Farms. It does contain Apple Juice so ask your nutritionist about that before drinking it, but it is a good source of vitamins and protien. Best of luck!
