Anyone have any suggestions for eating out???
Hey guys,
Its me the slowww looooser! Well i finally feel better and am ready to get out there and have fun, only one problem....I have no idea what i can eat when i go out to eat! Anyone have any suggestions. For example, if we go to Applebbes, what should i order? If anyone has gone out to dinner already i would appreciate any help. if you could name the restaurant and what you had. this way i will know or have an idea! Can we eat salmon?? ok, well any suggestions or tips are greatly appreciated! thanks!
Well my Dr. said that any fish (not fried of course..lol) is very high in protein!! So, I think salmon would be a great suggestion. I guess it depends on what your Dr. wants you eating too. Right now, my dr. wants me eating mostly protein, which means not to really eat veggies or fruit etc....That part is driving me nuts!! I just want a green bean!! LOL!!
I don't know why dr.'s are so different on this. My dr. said that when we go out to eat if you order a salad, just eat the protein off first. I am always supposed to eat protein first. What does your Dr. have you eating?
I am 4 wks out and tried applebee's. I actually ordered the "lightly" breaded chicken parm. Bad idea... It looked like a deep fried chicken steak and my pouch was pissed at me the rest of the night... I did my best to pick off the crust , but obviously not a good enough job. I would probably suggest the soup. Good Luck!!!!

I'm so glad you posted this. I go back to work on Monday and I have my company Christmas luncheon on Tuesday. I'm only imagining what it will be like. I am tolerating foods very well and I had some salmon last night. I was only able to eat 2 forkfulls (chewed to mush) and then I was very full. I had some very soft cauliflower for lunch the other day and had one flower off of it and I was full. So I think I will either get soup and have it come with everyones dinner or I will order something healthy like salmon and just bring home the leftovers. My pouch may be tolerating well but it doesn't let me eat much at all .
God bless...

Ok, I am going to be really controversial here. I went out this weekend - had surgery on the 17th - to Applebee's. I ordered chicken fajitas. Let me just say - Fan. Tas. Tic. I had the chicken first with a small amount of cheese and sour cream - even a small amount of guacamole. I rolled it all up in a tortilla and only took one bite. I just had to have some of it "normally." But, and this is the shocking part for me, the tortilla didn't taste all that great to me. I think my taste buds must be changing, but it tasted thick and doughy. But you MUST chew very, very thoroughly.
Anyway, I continued to eat and only had enough meat to maybe fill a small fajita and I was full and satified. I took home all the rest - it didn't even look like I'd eaten anything. I enjoyed it again for dinner, sans the tortillas which I gave to my dog. Then, all the rest of the food went to my dog. She was in heaven.
Wonderful idea!
I actually have enjoyed the topping from a slice of pizza (veggies only no meats for my pouch yet); that is really good. I have a WLS friend who also suggested the "guts" of a bean burrito at Taco Bell; I have not done this. I am trying to keep good habits, and Taco Bell would be the wrong direction for me, but I know there are sometimes when it is the only option. I'll wait until then. I really miss eating out alot, and am a little worried about it because you don't know what they are putting in the food.
The fish suggestion is a great one. I have heard a lot of people say they have problems with grilled chicken breast, so you may want to hold off on that. I tasted some ground beef teh otehr day and did great, so I think when my doc lets me have it as part of my diet I will do fine (Monday!).
Great string! Lori
I really miss eating out ~sigh~
Anyway, surgery date was 11/22.
I have four kids and my husband, so we are tired almost all the time and cooking just is such a pain sometimes, so we have done the "Out" thing.
My experience has been (bear in mind Dr. has me on mushy for 6 weeks):
Del Taco: Frijole's with cheese on top: Vomited all night long - not sure if I just ate too fast or what!
Wendy's: My husband ordered a combo meal and had a baked potato as his side di****ook about an ounce of the baked potato and mixed it with margerine and sour cream. This was GREAT! At Applebee's you could order a small empty plate and pilfer a bit of baked potato from your meal companion
Target snack bar while Christmas shopping: Brocolli and Cheese soup: I was actually able to eat about half just very slowly - and eat around the brocolli mostly.
Soup is good, a side of mashed or baked potato is good, a side of scrambled egg works for some people (not me, can't do egg yet), a side of cottage cheese is good, pilfering from your companion is really good and such a great money saver!
Good Luck!
Hi Cinthya,
I am 12 day ahead of you and I can eat pretty much anything at this point. I went to applebees the other day and got the shrimp skewers. My friend ordered a meal so they added them to her meal as they are an extra. I was going to get the chile bowl. It had chunks of steak in it and cheese on top so thought that would be good. Sat. nite we went to a 50th birthday party and they had a appetizer plate so I had a motzarella stick and a couple of buffalo wings and some ranch dressing. My hubby ordered the prime rib so I ate a few bites of that and a broccoli spear and some blackened catfish another friend ordered. Also last week we went out, actually that was my first meal out, I ordered the calamari steak appetizer. It was breaded so I just peeled most of the breading off and dipped it in some ****tail sauce and it was great. We do alot of socializing so you just have to get creative. Most restraunts(sp) if you tell them what you are going through will try to help you out. At least the ones I have gone to have. I have eaten red meat since the second week and have had no problems so I think I am pretty lucky.
Hope this helps. Just keep trying different things and see how it goes.
Hugs........Pam
