I am so exhausted!
Had my lap rny on 11/29 and am feeling pretty good except I am soooo tired. I'm fine when I'm laying down or sitting but with anything more than going to the kitchen to get more fluids, I feel like a wet noodle! I am drinking alot and getting protein, taking my vitamins. I took a shower this afternoon and couldn't wait to get out, leaning on the shower wall cause I was so beat. Anyone else have this? Will it pass on it's own? On Friday I talked to my dietician and she said that it was just from surgery. I have had 2 c-sections and my gallbladder out and never felt like this.

HEY BETH, IT'S STILL VERY EARLY FOR YOU. YOU'RE JUST A WEEK OUT OF SURGERY, YOUR BODY IS TELLING YOU TO REST AND RELAX. I FELT THE SAME WAY WHEN I FIRST CAME HOME AND EVERY WEEK IT GOT MUCH BETTER. I REMEMBER MY FIRST SHOWER, IT TOOK ME OVER A HOUR TO GET DRESSED, I FELT HELPLESS. I'M ALMOST 4 WEEKS OUT AND I CLEANED MY HOUSE FOR THE 1ST TIME YESTERDAY AND HUNG OUT WITH MY RELATIVES ALL DAY, DIDN'T GET HOME UNTIL 10 P.M. NOW THATS A BIG ACCOMPLISHMENT FOR ME. I'M GOING BACK TO CHURCH TODAY FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE SURGERY AND JUST ENJOYING THE NEW ME. LISTEN TO YOUR BODY AND GET IN TONE WITH IT CAUSE IT WON'T STEER YOU WRONG. GIRL, ENJOY THIS TIME BEFORE YOU HAVE TO GO BACK TO WORK. I GO BACK AFTER X-MAS. GOOD LUCK BETH!!!
Beth,
I felt the same way. I had lap rny on 11/19 and I'm just over 2 weeks post-op. I needed that whole week off work. It took me a few days to take a shower too. Luckily my mom had loaned me a chair for the shower that I used the first time but by a week out I could do without it. I got my staples out Monday and came back to work Tuesday. I'm even working today. It will get better. I do find myself going to sleep at 8 or 9 pm but I figure my body is saying it needs the extra rest. Best of luck to you! Feel better soon.

Nope, I'm not back to work yet, I believe that was Melissa, the post above yours. I am hoping to go back to work in another week. As of yesterday, I thought, there is no way. But today I feel 100% better. If I continue feeling this way I think next week will be no problem. Now, the goal is not to over do it because I am feeling so good. My husband said I looked so bad yesterday and today I look normal. I was able to go downstairs and back up with just feeling a little winded but not ANYTHING like I felt yesterday during my shower!

I think you're 100% normal. When Iwas at the point you are, I was still taking 2-3 naps a day...the least little bit of exertion wiped me out completely. Rest as much as you need to, take good care of yourself. I also had 2 c-sections, 2DNC's, surgery on my leg...none of them wiped me out like this did. I'm lucky that my kids are old enough to take care of themselves and me, and they were wonderful enough to just take over and let me rest as much as I needed. I had to use a shower chair for a week. So do whatever you need to do to recuperate without complications. Good luck!
Hi Everybody
I had surgery on 11/16/04 and am still so tired. At my 2 week visit I asked the Doctor why - he said it was normal and I should start feeling more energy on a week or two.
I had to laugh at you being exhausted from taking a shower...I felt the same way. I wiped me out instead on waking me up.
Good luck
Colleen
Beth,
I know that you said you are doing better. But I had my wls on the 23rd and I felt tired all the time. I believe it is just like eveyone has said it just comes with the territory! I am back at work though. I actually started the Monday after my sugery at my part-time (3 hours a day) after school job. I felt fine, because I was able to sleep until 11 and go to work. So I thought I would be ready to come back full time as a teacher on Thursday, so on Wednesday after a lot of coxing my doctor into releasing me he let me come back. I was fine all day Thursday (I am a teacher and direct the after school program so I am here from 7:45-6:00). But one Friday when I woke up and was very tired and deprest!) I realized that I did things too early! But today, I worked a full day and feel fine! Anyway, my advice is to try not do things too soon! It makes life a whole lot easier and happier if just listen to your body! Best of luck!

Beth,
After your c-section and your gall bladder you were pretty much able to resume your regualar diet and calorie intake pretty quickly. Not so here... that is why you are feeling so tired.... your body is not only trying to heal from surgery but also trying to do it on a drastic reduction in calories. It tends to go into starvation mode... the body tries to protect itself by slowing you down so that you do not have a big energy demand.
Hope this helps
