What are you eating?

I had my surgery on the 17th and seem to be able to eat whatever. Well, that's putting it very generally. But I can tolerate chicken (I chew like a madwoman ;), and other meats, and I ate HALF a baked potato the other day. Is this normal? It seems to be an awful lot of food. I had sour cream, cheese, chives, and meat in it...all fat free. (But boy oh boy was it yummy.) I'm just worried that this seems to be a lot of food and I don't have a bad reaction at all. Any comments about the amount of food you are able to eat at this point would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hey Melinda I am like you I can eat anything I have tried so far. I ate 8 oz of pureed chili in one sitting (it was very soupy). I've had chicken, turkey, lasagna (no pasta), nuts, peanut butter crackers, green beans, broccoli, squash, protein bar (1/2), sweet potato, yogurt, milk, applesauce, the insides of a Taco Bell supreme Taco, and all kinds of cheese. I don't do fat free on the cheese. I asked my nutritionist and doctor and they said just because you can doesn't mean you should. So I am eating 6 small meals a day. They suggusted to have the chili in 2 4 oz servings instead of one. I don't feel full when I eat but they say this is what I need to be doing. That feeling satisfied is where I want to be not full. I hope this helps you out some. Debbie RNY 11/15/04 - 7lbs.

I have stayed within my limitations set by the doctor mostly. I am allowed to have refried beans w/ cheese, cottage cheese (w/ a little pizza sauce and melted mozzerela cheese on top...tastes like lasagna), and scrambled egg (w/ pureed salsa and melted cheese on top...southwestern omelette). I have an ounce of one protein item above and also an ounce of sf pudding or yogurt. I have a bit of sf cool whip on my chocolate pudding (too chocholaty otherwise). A couple times when I didn't measure my meal I know it was more like 1.5 oz of the protein item, so I only had a 1/2 oz of the other. But I can eat all my food in 5 minutes and not feel "full" or nausea. I have done that a couple times when I wasn't paying attention. And my bite sizes can be pretty normal and no problems either. I did cheat and have watermelon about 2 oz. in a short period of time, as I figured it would be a liquid/fluid item. My hubby sternly disciplined my thinking, ans rationale. It was so good, and I wanted it real bad. I justified it since I am allowed to have strawberries and bananas in the protein drinks. It is much less to digest, and I had NO SEEDS either. I am concerned that I can eat so fast without discomfort and tolerate meals without feeling that "full sensation."I wish I felt nausea when I ate the 2 full ounces~ Lori

I also had surgery on the 17th. I had a lot of head hunger right after the surgery, but now that stopped. Anything harder than yogurt creates very unpleasant feeling of food being stuck in my throat and I feel immediately full, no matter how well I chew. I also experience pain if eating too fast. I can hardly eat 1 ounce. I guess that is why my head hunger dissappeared. I did try all kind of foods withing the diet set by my surgeon, but did not advance well towards pureed food (stage I am in now). I wish I could eat normally like you...

Great topic. I've been concerned that I can/am eating too much at times, too. Usually, my daily menu looks something like this: 2 Cups of coffee w/Splenda & Coffemate later Bkfst: 1 egg w/1 slice of American cheese (usually scrambled), sometimes with 1 piece of bacon crumbled. I can never eat the entire serving. Usually about half. Lunch: 2 saltines w/cheddar cheese, or 2 w/peanut butter and a chunk of cheddar cheese or leftovers from dinner Dinner: Shrimp or crab legs or beeftips (tiny pieces in gravy) or tuna on saltines or egg & cheese, 1/2 a restaraunt meatball, refried beans w/cheese & salsa, pinto beans, etc. Protein. As I write this, I realize that it really isn't a lot of food. I think the problem I am having though is that I am not measuring anything because I know that it is less than what I am allowed. I'm only weighing at my doctor's office, so I don't know how I'm doing week to week. I was down 17 pounds at my first week's check-in. I'll weigh again in another week or so. Guess I'll find out then if I'm doing OK with my servings. Donna P RNY 11/17/04

Well, my surgeon has me eating protein. We aren't allowed any potatoes, noodles, starches of any sort. I eat refried beans with cheese, grilled chicken breast, 2 pieces bacon, cottage cheese, ground hamburger (that I make into taco meat) all protein things.... My only problem is I am nauseated almost every time I eat. I don't drink for a 1/2 hour before, during or 1/2 hour after my meal. I try to eat slow...Sometimes I can eat something and I am not sick to my stomach at all, other times, it makes me feel nauseated!! Good news is I haven't gotten sick!! I am just curious if this will go away?? I sure hope so!! The other night I almost wished I would get sick so that I wouldn't feel that way anymore!! I am sure glad I did this because I have been doing wonderfully and I do feel great, but I am getting tired of never knowing what is going to upset my stomach!!!
