Hey everybody, A friend of mine suggested adding a little pizza (or spaghetti) sauce and a little parmasean cheese to your cottage cheese, and microwaving about 20 seconds. It's wonderful. I feel like I am having lasagna! Also a little touch of mild salsa (put through the blender first) to your scrambled egg (if your doc allows it) with cheese melted on top! Lori

I boil my chicken in chicken broth for a long time, till it's really tender and just shredds, then once it's done( i drain the water) and for my dinner I will have my 2-3 oz. of chicken, topped w/ pizza sauce and mozz. cheese. It's SOOO good. I can't wait to have a chicken taco. I'm finding lots of ways around not being able to eat like I used to and actually finding out that I like it! Who knew?? Melissa

Lori- You can also do it with Ricotta cheese if your doc allows it!!!! I heard its good. Today I took a 100 percent chicken breast tender and put some light ranch dressing in it, blenderized in the food processor. It tasted soooo good!!!!!! I made sure it was pretty minced up!!!!!! Janet

I am now 8 days post-op (down 14 lbs horrah! ), and the dietician cleared me today to add frozen strawberries (no suger added) to my protein drink, and since I cannot stomach the protein drinks (even Nectar brand and the other "good" ones) I tried the following: 1/3 c. dry powdered milk (Carnation type...8 gm protein per 1/3 cup dry) 6 oz skim milk (1 gm protein per oz) 2 big frozen strawberries It was pretty good, and tolerable. (total 14 gr. Protein) PS I am allowed 2% milk, but I prefer skim, and the powdered milk makes it taste richer anyway. Walmart had a big bag of strawberries that I found for about $5.50. Also she said I can have refried beans (low or no fat...check labels; I found Old El Paso to be lowest on carbs), and add a little melted cheese for my meals. It was yummy, and she said it is okay to add small amounts of pureed salsa/spaghetti/pizza sauce to my meals as long as my new tummy isn't angry about it. Lori

Lori... I just wanted to thank you for sharing your new ideas... I tried the refried beans today with low fat shredded mexican cheese, a tsp of lowfat cream cheese, a tsp of low fat sour cream. A tbps of salsa, also. It was soooo good!! It is so nice to have flavor back. I plan on trying some ground chicken with tomato sauce and low fat mozzarella tomorrow. I just wanted to say thanks for reminding me that we can still eat!! I look forward to reading these posts. Jen

I am so glad we have access to this site. I love reading all the postings when I can, and I am so grateful to those of you who tell us about ways of making food more platable. I am a cajun cook, but I know this type of food is not for me any more.......so I am grateful for new ways to fix some food for myself. I am not ready for food yet, but I can't wait to try this when doctor gives me the ok. Thanks, Marilyn

I had surgery 11-23-04 and im hating the solid liquid diet! UGH! I am having trouble with the protein drinks. Although I did find 2 ways that are great! Even my mom drinks them! The first is 1 cup of skim or 1% milk, 1 scoop of vanilla or non flavored protein, and 1 1/2 scoops of Vienna Coffee French Vanilla No sugar decaf coffee mix. Its great hot I havent tried it cold. Second is 1 cup skim milk, 1 packet sugar free hot chocolate & 1 scoop of protein. If the protein is too much at first only use a 1/2 a scoop. Atleast it will get you some protein during a icky time!
