Hi everybody, I need to update my profile, but I will save that for another day. I got home on Thanksgiving Day, and Friday I was in the mood for something more flavorful. I remember being asked if I wanted grape juice in the hosp, so I took a sip at home thinking it must be okay if they give it at the hosp (no sugar added of course), and oh my was I standing over the sink for 10 minutes heaving. It was horrible. Nothing came up, but it was painful. Okay lesson learned; no juices at all. I honestly thought I was following the rules, but I won't do that again. Then Saturday I thought sf Jello sounded really good, hadn't had any since hosp, so I had about an ounce, and again gave me nausea about an hour and I ended up heaving once again. I double checked and it was sugar free. I don't know if my body thought it was getting sugar or what. It was real confusing. By the way, I am ready to get rid of this drain, it is very painful at the site.

Hello, I can relate to how you felt having your first dumping experience as I had mine yesterday and it took me totally by surprise. I was eating lunch (chicken, spinach and mashed potatoes) and when I ate the spinach it brought that and everything else up I had eaten. I was so horrified I didn't know whether to call the doctor's office or just deal with it, but after having calmed down and remembered what my nutritionist said I was okay. I have been post-op almost 3 weeks and spinach was the first thing I've eaten that didn't agree with me. Needless to say...I won't eat spinach for a while as I don't want to have that experience again anytime soon. Be careful when purchasing items that says "sugar free" as you still need to read the ingredients because 8 times out of 10 there's something in there sugar related. I learned this the hard way drinking sugar free crystal light pink lemonade and it had me so dizzy I thought I was going to pass out. Take care... Cassandra

I can relate to that dumping experience too! Mine was caused by a slice of cheese. I started having stomach pain, cramping and just horrible discomfort. Needless to say I have not had anymore sliced cheese. I had my first vomiting experience when eating some shrimp, fish and broccoli. I had had fish before so I attributed it to the shrimp and had to go to the emergency room because the next morning I threw up my protein shake which is not good. I checked out OK but I will try shrimp that has been processed and not fresh. I have not had any sugar free problems and I tolerate juice well. I am post op now for 4 weeks. Continued good luck! I had surgery on 11-15-04 and today was my first vomitting experience! I know exactly what I did....I did not chew my lunch good enough. I forget I can not just 'inhale' food as I have done in the past when I am in a hurry. I felt at first I was having a heart attack. I took a Pepcid to ease the pain. That worked for a few minutes, but I was miserable for at least 20 minutes! I felt fine after everything came up, but I do not ever want to experience that again. I got rid of my drain a week after surgery. It got to the point I could no longer remove the Q-tip so I stopped trying to clean it. My doctor said it was fine on my visit 12-1-04. Hope you get yours removed soon. To date I have lost 23 pounds! I am in a smaller uniform (one size down) and I feel great! People are beginning to notice at work. Donna Maria
