Home Today

Today is Friday and I am home from the hospital. The worst part of the whole thing is that I am full of gas - they fill your belly full of co2 for the procedure and then it takes awhile to absorb it and pass it - so far more burping than tooting but I will take anything - you might want to stay clear of my zip code if I get on a roll!!! Today I got to drink broth and apple juice - nothing has ever tasted so good - from Tuesday about 9:00a until Friday at 9:00a I could have nothing by mouth - I could brush my teeth and swish and spit - that made it just bearable. So by now I should have lost some weight - I have been on a liquid diet since Sunday evening - but they pumped me full of iv fluids for a couple of days so who knows - I am haven't even cared to look at the scale - my focus is on tooting!!! My incisions don't hurt and the only pain I have is from the gas (did I mention that already??) and where my incisions are I feel as though I did too many sit ups.

Thanks for your reply. Today is Saturday I am day 3 post op and I think last night I started to get a grip on the gas pains. I took some of the gas-ex type meds but I think what really helped was I heated a towel and placed on my belly and then put my electric massager up to my belly. While you are in hospital if you have gas pains you might ask your doctor if that is okay or not (at 2:00a i just plain didn't care if I had doctors approval or not!) Good luck - your surgery is on Tuesday? I get my drain out on Monday - very early - they usually pull drains on Thursday but since it is turkey day....you will do fine - the doctors and nurses will know you want to go home if you get up and walk and get dressed - I showered on Thurs (post-op day 1) dressed in my own pj's - had to get help from nurse to work around iv and friday post-op day 2 as soon as I passed my leak test I put on my jeans and sneakers - my doc probably let me go early just because I looked ready to go!!! Good luck to you - be prepared if you are having lap you will have some awful looking bruises from incisions but they look much worse than they feel. Take your toothbrush, sneakers (easier to walk in if you are trying to walk off gas pains) and chap stick. I took a bunch of things to keep me busy but was walking so much I didn't use any of it!
