I'm a newbie post-op and just having had surgery on 11-8. So far, so good. Did really well blazing through surgery, slept like a log in recovery and the first day was a blur of drugs, dry heaving, and being really hot. After that I've done well. Got the gas build up on day 3-5 and relieved it with Gas X...my new friend. Moved to soft foods on Saturday and LOVE hummus. Today was my first "got all the protein, liquids, and vitamins in" day! I think today's naseau is related to me overdoing my little "social" schedule of having gone to church AND my Dad's retirement dinner. Was so very tired all day and low-grade naseau. Later today, the 16th, I'll be headed to my docs to do the one week checkup and see how I've done all week. I'm off my Prevacid already and I think the blood pressure medicine will be the next to go. It's really freeing!! I can start to really feel the contour on my shin bone and I haven't done that in a good while...so its interesting. That and all my rings are getting super loose, especially my toe ring. It's really cool to be among all my buddies in this forum, makes me feel more confident we can all do it together after enduring the surgery around the same time. Sharon

Congrats - you make it sound easy - I have my 36 hour countdown going!!! It is great to have people to share with who are walking your leg of the journey!

It's more of a day to day thing versus easy. Monday was brutal, felt like a truck had slammed into me and then I was hotter than a rocket all day, naseauous, dry heaves, etc. Tuesday was a slow rebound into the world of post-op, slowly getting up, drinking fluids, moving about on a sore belly. By Wednesday I was doing much better with getting around and getting in fluids. Thursday went home with a gas filled belly, really tired, and emotionally overloaded. Each day brings its own wealth of lessons. Get the fluids and proteins in, take the vitamins, establish good habits and a routine. Food isn't a party so much as it is a necessity now. Two vienna sausages made up dinner...its a weird experience. The countdown is the most interesting experience because you really assess things in those hours. Wait till you see the operating room, its a surreal experience like its happening to someone else. You are going to do wonderfully and I will be praying for you. Everyone is so vastly different in recovery, a friend of mine was ready to walk when she got out of recovery. Keep me posted as to how you are doing. Sharon

Howdy Sharon, I've been thinking about you! I've been wondering what you have been eating and how you're feeling? I didn't have any gas, nausea, or pain since I've been home..KNOCK ON WOOD! Email me after your appt with Coates let me know how much you've lost. I lost 12lbs at my 1 week appt and I know how you feel my rings are getting loose and fat is slowly disappearing from my face. FEELS GREAT! I don't think I'm getting enough protein in without the OK to have protein shakes. Good Luck at your appt and I'll talk to you later. Smiles, Summer
