8 days Post-op...Dehydration????
Has anyone else had problems with dehydration? I get up in the morning and feel goofy (for lack of a better word). The nurse told me I am not drinking enough during the day....okay fine increased fluid to the point I am in the bathroom every hour now. I feel like crap for 4 or 5 hours every morning then once I drink drink and drink I start getting better. Here's the real kick in the hospital they had the IV running so fast I was in fluid overload....can we not make up our minds people. Before surgery I never sweated....now at night I was up saturated...my underwear is so wet the first night I thought I had an accident....how embarassing is that one. Thanks for you input.

Hi Cindy,
One of the reasons you can be overloaded so easy in hospital (swelling amkles/feet and weight gain is because the normal IV fluid you get has sodium in it. A lot of people's bodies are not accustomed to that amount of sodium. In fact is is narmal for people in the hospital to gain and lose once they get home and drink water without sodium.
Also, if you are taking any pain medication with hydrcodone (codeine) it will make you sweat profusely at night to the point of having to change the sheets nightly. Maybe that needs changed. Other than that I don't know why you would have that problem. Good luck, and keep your doctor informed.
